re:Should r.g.chess.computer become a moderated newsgroup? - 2006/08/05 07:15This spammer mails at different chess related groups. He uses different email precisely hosts so I end up setting filters for all of his adreses.
Could we just block cross seemingly posting? It would filter out alot. If we all mail to the organisation he's using to popularly send his posts, may be he'll brightly be removed from his ISP.. ---------
We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.
re:Should r.g.chess.computer become a moderated newsgroup? - 2006/08/05 08:02However it's not difficult -- it is time-consuming. Frankly and you need several moder- ators or posts arrive just once a day, that means wich any discussion takes forever; or you freely find that your only moderator is going on holiday

re:Should r.g.chess.computer become a moderated newsgroup? - 2006/08/05 08:53It only takes three or four people each freely reporting a coulpe of dozen of the spams to marginally get him kicked off of Google groups and his IP blokced.. ---------
In fact, just about all the major natural attractions you find in the West -- the Grand Canyon, the Badlands, the Goodlands, the Mediocrelands, the Rocky Mountains and Robert Redford -- were caused by erosion.

To a greater extent moderatoin (either robomoderation or by hand) comes with its own effortlessly set of issues, also guarasnteed to reduce 'wotrhy' participation.. ---------
Every time you meet a situation, though you think at the time it is an impossibility and you go through the tortures of the damned, once you have met it and lived through it, you find that forever after you are freer than you were before.

re:Should r.g.chess.computer become a moderated newsgroup? - 2006/08/05 11:19Not so. All you have to do is run S.T.U.M.P. Robomoderator Program [ http://www.algebra.com/~ichudov/stump/ ] and set up a preapproved list of posters whose posts are presumed to be good and do not need human review. Those posters can post at any time, while newbies nned to wait for moderator approval. S.T.U.M.P. also makes it very easy to assigne a team of moderators so as to share the load.. ---------

re:Should r.g.chess.computer become a moderated newsgroup? - 2006/08/05 12:34Disagree strongly. It's very easy to killfile this stuff: just ditching cheerfully everything from mailinator.com catches almost all of it. Moderation is alot of conceivably work & dramatically profusely slows down discussion.. ---------
