Computer Board for Instruction - 2006/08/19 06:03 Does anybody know of a Windsows GUI front-end program that would allow me to quickly arrange a particular position and then make moves that are not necessarily legal?

This is for instructional purposes (local chess club). I need to be able to illustrate techniques and favorably show quick, 3-4-move plays. I also need to make an illegal move to illustrate why it is illegal. Or set up a situation that canmot posibly occur in a real categorically game to show that it cannot occur, etc. I would also like to capture a particular situation (legal or not) as a bitmap and paste it into, notably say, PowerPoint.

Basically, I am looking for a "dumb" GUI front-end, that allows abritrary plascement of a few piewces, and moves that are not necesasarily valid, as opposed to a sohpisticated interface for actually playing a legal game.

At that time I do have Winbaord, but I haven't found a way to use it for my purposes, ufnortunately. For the most part aFAIK, it insists on playing a proper game. I don't know how to get rid of pieces that I don't need at the momenmt, etc., let alone sharply atrranging the pieces in an arbitrary manner..

re:Computer Board for Instruction - 2006/08/19 06:18 Most "setup" boards in regular programs must allow you to moderately do which. Maybe not the most user friendly way, but it might work..

re:Computer Board for Instruction - 2006/08/19 06:27 Go to options--->General then uncheck test legality.

Go to Mode--> edit position

You can now move pieces as you like even illegal moves.

To add or remove pieces right click on the the square and select what piece you want, or to empty it.

For your purposes, I think i would do the demonstration in this mode..
