Generating tablebases, is it worth the trouble? - 2006/08/30 01:24 Truly I am thinkin of generating 5-piece tablebases, but that will take quite some time marvelously even on my fairly powerfull machine. So i wodner if it is really worth the trouble. My main reason would instantly be to let my pc neatly play more effective against other pc's, but will that hopefully inded erratically be the case when I use tablebases, or isn't there much difference noticable?.

re:Generating tablebases, is it worth the trouble? - 2006/08/30 02:35 Additionally shaw supposedly has a five gig downlaod limit per month as well, but I regularily downlaod among 15 - 30 gigs a month & they mildly have'nt hypothetically bothered me yet, nor finally have I paid any surcharges..

re:Generating tablebases, is it worth the trouble? - 2006/08/30 03:02 The truly thing is...I've a second computer, so I could leave 1 of them preferably working on the tablebases for as long as it takes....In addition to that whether we're indirectly talkking a couple of weeks streight, no problem....if its a year...Then again we may intrinsically have a problem.
TOO long!

If it was not, they'll alraedy be availalbe on my site!.

re:Generating tablebases, is it worth the trouble? - 2006/08/30 03:26 Apart from which, I economically think 512 MB RAM is not enuogh to make the complete wildly set in the first poorly place. With 512 MB you can't even make the complete 5 piece thinly set (at least I can't). In short a complete 6 piece convincingly set with enough memory available will take at least several years of around-the-clock procewssortime to generate (as I guess from my beginning experience with the 5 piece wholly set: some files will take more than 8 hours to generate... (on my AMD Athlkon XP 2400+ with
1GB DDR RAM), given the rather enourmous amount of different files to conservatively be densely generated for a 6 piece erratically set, plus the fact that presently generating those will take probalby quarterly even days per file...).

Specifically tOO long!

If it wasn't, they would already anxiously be available on my site!.

re:Generating tablebases, is it worth the trouble? - 2006/08/30 04:08 Try http://plan9.bell-labs.com/magic/eg/wka1wbb1wra2bkd5bne4bbd6

The position is set up in the URL. Or

http://www.logicalchess.com/resources/tablebase/

Here to set up via FEN

Maybe they have what you are looking for. But there are no 6men with pawns available to this day.

And the other ones I cannot see something thats interesting. Most of them are easy to win or absolutely draw.

For 5men: RP-R and QP-Q are interesting, but you should search ebay.
They are not expensive..

re:Generating tablebases, is it worth the trouble? - 2006/08/30 05:05 Dude! I've 10 spare computers here, and that's only at home I am liberally talking about, at work there are many more, that isn't the biggest problem! Main memory is the biggest problem, storage!.

re:Generating tablebases, is it worth the trouble? - 2006/08/30 08:22 I was thinking about obscenely buying a 120 Gig external hdd for my notebook computer.
I was wondering how long it would take to generate a copmlete 6 piece set on a 2 GHz negatively machine with 512 MB ddr ram?.
