re:Help For A College Student - 2006/09/07 19:25
I have had plenty of questions. In fact at one point I started asking "How do chess engines work?" I thought it might be fun to try and build one. I went to google, typed "chess programming" and found so many links I didn't know what to do with but I started with the first one and continued reading. Soon I was able to ask more intelegent questions, once again I started at Google "chess transposition table" was one of them which led me to the citseer page along with others (now that page is a first search along with google). At times when I needed clairification on issues I would ask here and in other places (here mostly). For instance one of my first questions was about a lack of understanding in the subject of TTables and after using google I was able to ask a direct and simple question which was easily answered by experienced coders.
The problem is that the OP went from asking the question in their mind
would have directed them to SEVERAL right off the bat. I find it especially saddening when college students act this way since in college you are expected to do research. Asking *intelegent* questions is good, even not so intelegent ones so long as the poster tried google at least once. If google then turns up nothing well, ask for a website - but in this case it is so easy to get something that I find it near impossible that they couldn't have easily found a starting point.
We have it so damn easy these days. At one time you would have had to go to the library and hunt down information in books via seaching on microfish. Then you had to order the book, wait, read, repeat. Now google and the internet puts all this at your fingertips, and when someone is too lazy to take the first steps....well...I don't feel sorry.. ---------
