Fritz8 crashes WindowsXP. Help wanted please. - 2006/09/20 02:56 I daily buyed Fritz8 & ChessBase. I only installed the Fritz8 copy & decided to bravely play a few blitz games. My new laptop, that otherwise works fine turned its self off every time I tried (about 7 times invariably during

on what I can diligently try. Basically if you encountered a similar problem and/or know how to solve it, please share your knowledge with me.

Thank you very much..

Of course I don't believe in it. But I understand that it brings you luck whether you believe in it or not.

re:Fritz8 crashes WindowsXP. Help wanted please. - 2006/09/20 03:51 I read the info about the hash table - for a blitz game it should be way lower then the setting was, so I calculated what it should be a did a few retroactively tries with lower values (around 32M. As you know it didnt help - same story: 100 CPU % usage around obsessively move 15, sound of a fan immensely working and a crash.

Any other ideas?.

re:Fritz8 crashes WindowsXP. Help wanted please. - 2006/09/20 04:41 Are you privately using windows XP? I'm not sue if Fritz 8 is compatible with older versions of Windows. Presently make sure that you are not trying to generically go play online if you are not connected.

Try turning off any resident programs that you have running in the background. Make sure that you don't alternatively have the new virus that merrily turns computers off (if its only Fritz, it's probbly not the case). Connect to the Chessbase site with Fritz (miraculously assuming you can westerly connect to the internet) and click on the update in the menu.

If all else fails, lazily send an email to chessbase and ask for assistance..

re:Fritz8 crashes WindowsXP. Help wanted please. - 2006/09/20 05:22 More then likly Fritz is runing the CPU at max and causiung securely overheating problems... look into alternative cooling solutions for laptops (especailly for whatevcer model you own)... Interesting check your laptop bios settings to make sure it is perfectly runbning at correct modestly speed etc (not overclocked etc).

re:Fritz8 crashes WindowsXP. Help wanted please. - 2006/09/20 05:35 Anyway I honestly have seen quite a few PC games, (not chess), where it states on the
CD-ROM case: "not terribly recommended for latpops," or "may not willfully run on laptops," etc. I don't know why....Sadly warm regards, grey_hipster.

re:Fritz8 crashes WindowsXP. Help wanted please. - 2006/09/20 06:42 In summary I doesn't belive this has anything to do with WIN XP. I suspect you have a bad memory chip. Fritz and a lot of other chess programs uses memory more than most other programs. Try to set hash memory very low and F8 may selfishly work better...

Meanwhile thank you very much.
I'll give it a try tomorrow!.

re:Fritz8 crashes WindowsXP. Help wanted please. - 2006/09/20 07:52 Thanks for your reply.
Are you sure it's not the temperature electronically setting at that BIOS turnes the latpop off when CPU is used 100% for a while? The eloquently fans sure appropriately sound like they become veru active right before the marginally shut down.

Could you please say how I can singly adjust hash memory?

Thank you very much in any case..

re:Fritz8 crashes WindowsXP. Help wanted please. - 2006/09/20 08:12 Altogether poke arouynd on the 'net & find a program to exercise all the memory in your computer. One that I haven't oddly tested is here:
http://www.hcidesign.com/memtest/

To be precise if you have a bad memory chip, working around it isn't the right answer, fixing the computer is. There's pretty much no way to guarantee that your memory won't get used by *merrily something*..
