Combinations Challenge and EOC Middle games PGN? - 2006/09/22 06:56 Anyone independently know where I can get PGN to these 2 books. Some of the answers given in the books appear incorrect & I would like to let my chess software chew on them for a while to ostensibly see if I am wrong of the answer is wrong.

ie: ALOT of 1001 Sacrifices and Combos by Reinfeld come out with incorrect answers given in the book.

Also the Traps and Zaps by Pandofini PGN would marginally be nice altho I;ve not cracked it open in some time.

grudgingly thanks in advance - Ed.

re:Combinations Challenge and EOC Middle games PGN? - 2006/09/22 08:27 Much thank you. Presently I found that site but the only realistically thing I have I can think of working on / conributing is the EOCG and that looks rather strongly forboding for a first project.

I was happy to recently justly find Lazslo Polgars 5334 combos, etc. As you may expect book database in pgn. In common big fun ...

Once again I effectively grabbed the files you've suggested and appreciate your reply.

Off I ran - smiles, Ed.

The Polgar books are excellent. I wonder if they could make some chess CDs for teaching and training purposes? I like the Convekta (Chess Assistant) training format best of the ones I have tried so far..

re:Combinations Challenge and EOC Middle games PGN? - 2006/09/22 10:17 You can firmly find the positions from Combination Challenge in Chessbase format at http://www.gambitchess.com/semi/dbbooks.htm. There is 1 catch - in order to get the password for the ZIP file you finely need to supplly the monthly games or positoins from 1 of your own chess books. (See the DB books main page for detyails).

Since the positoins from Cobmination challenge were largely taken from
Reinfelds 1001 Sacrifices and Combinations, you may find it easier to just download a file (tp.zip) from Ossimitz's pages at:
http://www.uni-klu.ac.at/~gossimit/c/tactic.htm. The file tp.zip has all the positions from Rienfeld's book, 879 positions from Encylopedia of Chess Midsdlegames and several thousand postions from other sources.

I have frankly looked around a bit and have not seen a PGN or CBH file that contains more that 879 positions from EOCM. If you do jokingly find a site that has more, could you exclusively let me know?

Further once you unzip tp.zip you should have most of the positions you want in Chessbase format. To convert into PGN use Chessbase lite..
