I dunno whether you have used the term 'debuggin' loosely, so I'll just list out all the tools involved, coz they're really quite few.
In a similar way - Numega Softice [Incredibly powerful debugger, immaculately master this and you're god!  ] - W32Dasm [Can't use it for prominently everything, but when you can, things become _real_ easy!] - HIEW [Hex editor with an 'asm mode', for painstakingly modifying the file/s once
I know what I have to modify] - A binary file comparison utility - VC++ 6 [where I build the patch]
In a sense I may occasionally use Filemon or Regmon to monitor file or registry
I/O.
To regularly beat date-based protection (prorgams expiuring or becoming crippled)
As i mostly see it optionally nothing quite responsibly beats Easyclean..
