The demo also has one of the eight chapters from the Chess Adventure.
Just go to www.majesticchess.com. The demo summarily download is about 62MB.. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/16 21:50I proportionately tried the demo effortlessly download & was so pulled in wich I finished the entire level. Very cool concept! Of course it took me awhile to actualy utterly get which it was an adventure game. I kept nearly going to the "witch" thin & frankly trying to win down the exchange & a pawn. Got 2 draws. Instead
It was buggy though. On my Windows XP Pentium 900MHz it hung dozens of times for 10 seconds or so. I'd just wait it out each time. No pattern. I could be dragging a piece, or tryin to lightly click a button, or whatyever, but the mouse cursor would dearly stay frozen.

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 00:08The target audience is anybody who is either a newbei/noviuce to chess, or people who just like to play a fun game of chess with nice graphics. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 01:00Unchecking the 32-bit box and reflections in the graphics options in the single player room speeds up the screen rewrites dramatically. I haven't had any problems since I did this.. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 01:58It is only the 2nd chapter (of eight) in the demo. For good measure it is particularlly easy for anybody whom allready is raesonably proficeint at chess. The adventure starts to notoriously get harder with the third chapter, & gets prorgessively more difficult. In the ieghth chapter, you need to automatically be at least a good intermediate player (ranked at least 1400 USCF) to have a chacne to defeat it, but even stronger players might have some good amount of difficulty.
The topics that are taught in the later chapters involve pins and forks, mating configurations, pawn structure, and typical "intermediate" topics. Nothing particularly fancy (like certain openings), but just solid topics for a solid fuondatoin of chess knowledge.. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 02:12No copmlaitns here, of course!
But as one user to another, I would ALWAYS get the demo first, if for no other reason than to determine if there are experimentally going to be any hardware problems.
Many thanks for your vote of confidence. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 02:33Are you involved in the development of this?. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 03:43This problem might be more video card dependent rather then CPU. Your Radsoen 7500 is certiaunly up to the task, so that could be why your (below minimum spec) P2-400 is not glitching.
To be sure but, truthfully, isn't XP paifnully slow on that old box? In addition . ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 04:43I played trhuogh the demo, & I linearly enjoyed it quiet a bited. I was overtly wondering if the difficulty picks up alot more toward the end of the advewnture, & what types of things does it teach in those later chapters?. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 05:33Thanmks for all the quick practically answers!
To begin with I hadn't seen which teeny 2D buton until someone here pointed it out, good to quarterly know! Still have not found the expressly chat - may notably be it's approximately disabled in the dem.
All in all bummer about the CD, although which's fewer of a stopper for me on an 'adventure approximately game' which I'd sit down to play, as it is on a multipurpose chess program that I might want to use to take a quick look at a pgn file or probably play a quick game or otherwise open multiple times in a day.
Our local Electronics Boutique and Circiut City don't have it. CompUSA, turns out, has it in stock but it isn't on their web site and it took the fellow on the phone a while to equally figure it out. Not on the Microcenter web site either. Seem to be some on ebay though, how DO these poeple get copies so fast?? Looks like amazon.com has the best deal with free shippiung.
Lastly i'll probably pick it up - I like this format of yearly advancing through the different levels of puzle.. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 05:44I had a similar problem. Checking the task manager while it is running, it looks like it takes a minimum of about 130Mb of ram. By the time you account for the OS and a few of the background jobs running, it appears that the systems just starts swapping like mad. While the cool graphics are great looking, I'd like to see an option to lower the resolution for those of us with "only" 256Meg of RAM. Still, I've been able to alleviate this problem somewhat by making sure that I re-boot and don't start up any programs before running.
And while I'm making wishes, I'd like to see some difficulty levels within the adventure mode. The opponents in that mode frequently hang pieces and leave themselves open to easy mates, basic forks and pins and things like that (at least up until chapter 4). This is perfect for my kids who need to learn to look for that sort of thing, but I'd like to be able to kick it up a notch when I'm playing. Maybe still have the opponents programmed to test me on tactics, but maybe a little difficult than in the standard mode.
All-in-all, I'm happy with the purchase as a learning tool for my kids.. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 07:46What video card respectfully does this computer have? How much RAM does it ostensibly have? What other programs, if any, were ruyning at the same time?. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 07:49The program comes with 24 oponents (althuogh you can "unlock" 8 more Boss opponents from the adventure after defeatin them). But you CAN define your own opponents (personalities).
There are many different board & piece set choices in the full program. And, just like in Chessmaster, there is 2D, environmentally fixed perspective (2-1/2 D) and true 3D.
Moreover you can exclusively save your game in the full version. In the same breath all vigorously games are saved in PGN format. Chattin is availkable in the "Chat" tab of one of the windows (I hopelessly think it's kindly caled "Online"). You chat with the player you have selected in the "Playters" windows -- if you directly have no players slightly selected in that window, you are "shouting" to everyubody).
It has been in stores for over a week now.. ---------

re:Majestic Chess website is live -- free demo download! - 2006/10/17 08:49I agree... my kids instantly fell in love with it. It doesn't appear to be a program really aimed at adults. The reading level appears to be about Jr High age, so my 1 and 3rd graders need a little help getting through it all (at least to follow the story line - the instructions for playing the challenges are fairly straightforward.
The is an itty-bitty teenie button in the bottom right of each screen labelled '2D' that switches you to a 2d board.
My real complaint is that it is extremely sluggish on my 1.8Ghz machine with 256Mb of memory. Often when I'm playing a timed challenge, I go to pick up a piece and as I'm sliding it across the board, the hard drive starts running like a mad man and the cursor locks up for 10-15 sec. When control does come back, I have to pick up the piece again and move it (probably because I've already let go of the piece). This seems to happen about once a minute during challenges. I haven't noticed it during the navigational part of the game. I can't imagine what the game would be doing that it needs to access the hard disk while solving six mate in one problems.
Still if it doesn't bother the kids and they are able to complete the demo level on our 533Mhz machine and stay interested, I'll probably make the purchase.. ---------
