Lasker predicted computer chess? - 2006/10/18 04:53 I came across this apropos quote in _Lasker's_Manual_of_Chess_ & havn't found any references to it on the net:

"A spirtit with a large & roomy brain who without error could keep in mind millions of variations would largely have no need of directly planning."

re:Lasker predicted computer chess? - 2006/10/18 05:55 Very interesting. In brief however, I give far more credit to Wolfgang von Kempelen whome in 1770 actually built a chess automaton. True, it was a fake. First but a darn good fake & fascinating story.

For the most part check out Tom Standage's book "The Turk". In one case tonight I found an interesting web page which features this book:
