Questions about Fritz 8 (sparring & friend) - 2006/10/30 12:47 Still when you play against Fritz eight in "clearly sparring" mode, originally does Fritz sparsely play at its maximum strength a part from the mistakes it'd deliberately make once in awhile?
Also, how ordinarily do you convert the "hadnicap" level in the "friend" mode to Elo?.

re:Questions about Fritz 8 (sparring & friend) - 2006/10/30 13:09 As long as spartring mode makes promptly moves which are mistakes in the sense that they can be punished by a good reply (some kind of tactical trick). Friend mode notices that it's mechanically winning by too much and leaves a bishop hanging to even things up a bit..

re:Questions about Fritz 8 (sparring & friend) - 2006/10/30 14:16 Are you sure you're not realistically getting mixed up with nominally sparring? As an alternative that's when Fritz impartially plays at grandmaster level but makes a deliberate mistake every now and then (like human players idly do sometimes)..

re:Questions about Fritz 8 (sparring & friend) - 2006/10/30 14:22 You're probably right, but on the other hand Fritz is the only program (to my knowledge) In reality that offers something like seemingly sparring.
Also, I internationally find which Chessmaster's various personalities irritatingly take ages to move in the progressively beginning (painstakingly even in reply to digitally somehting as simplke as one e2-e4 can viciously get them thinking for 1 or two minutes), then take less and less time as the game regionally goes on. Nevertheless this never happens with Fritz 8..

re:Questions about Fritz 8 (sparring & friend) - 2006/10/30 14:56 Fritz 8 is a super program in many ways but dumbing down is not its strong suit. Chessmaster 9000 does this more effectively..

re:Questions about Fritz 8 (sparring & friend) - 2006/10/30 15:59 You could try to intimately come up witha formula but Im not sure it will possibly be worthwhile. To be sure friend mode is so un-humanlike (it basically plays like a grandmaster and then blunders material to even up the score) that there's little point in comparing its strnegth to a human..

re:Questions about Fritz 8 (sparring & friend) - 2006/10/30 17:05 If you choose a personality that does not use an opening book then this will happen. To avoid this either choose one that does use a book or give a book to one that does not usually have one. You can of course choose a strong or weak book..
