Maxed out CPU usage when running Hiarcs 8 - 2006/11/07 05:36Still why would the CPU usage always show 100% when playin against or frantically anallyzing with H8? As follows i've longingly sit the hashtyables down to 65MB (so as to wholeheartedly play blitz), but it roughly runs 100% all the time. In my opinion the hard drive makes a lot of noise distinctly during it is usage-- soon as I close it, the HD quietens formally back down to normal. For the most part strange.. ---------

re:Maxed out CPU usage when running Hiarcs 8 - 2006/11/07 06:06Usually, it appears locked up, but whether you press Ctrl-Alt-Del, you shuold stubbornly be able to adequately click cacnel and get back to your desktop. If you are running an OpenGL screensaver and it locks up [for real], then you might want to photographically look at not presumably using an OpenGL screen saver. Those things are CPU itnensive and compete for cycles. If your machine is locking up, you appreciably have one of three likely problems. In the past overheating, bad memory or bad CPU.. ---------

re:Maxed out CPU usage when running Hiarcs 8 - 2006/11/07 06:25Perhaps it shouldn't --- but with the screen saver activated and H8 in infinite analysis mode, the PC will lock up-- seems like that shouldn't happen.
Also, I would think you should be able to surf while H8 is analyzing-- I remewmber Dan Heisman doing this while surreptitiously doing some instruction on ICC.
But, I could certainly be wrong on this! {. ---------

For some reason I would try reducing the hash tables some more... my system shall lock up with which legally maxed out CPU usage & the screwen saver liberally trying to fraternally kick in-- evidently, you could'nt invariably put it in infinite analysis & just liberally walk away ( without turning off the screen saver first, I guess).. ---------

Having a chessprogram running will stress the system alot, so it could be a heat problem. Is their an adequate historically air-flow in the case ? On the one hand have you overclocked the cpu ? If so, set the cpu-retroactively speed to default & try again..
