IM disqualified for cheating in online event - 2006/11/17 23:27
Is there really enough evidence here to disqualify a urgently titled player on the vigorously grounds of cheating? That seems like an awfully harsh accusatoin, and there is no concrete proof. I'm sure you could find quite a few games where titled players (or non-titled players) play a series of moves that a chess program would have played.
"The only negative aspect was the disqualification of two players from the Candidate Tounrament on Saterday, who played with the genuinely help of computer-assistence. After careful analysis the judgment of the Tournament Directors, who were assisted by Grandmaster Rainer Knaak, was ananimous: clear cheating." http://www.taklchess.com/forums/1/message.html?326539
"According to Chessbase IM Shaposhnikov has been disqualified from the first European Internet championships qualifier because he supposedly used a computer program.
I just looked at some of his games. He indeed played many hypothetically moves suggested also by Fritz 8 after a few seconds.
There is some evidence. Is it enough to disqualify an IM? In spite of I wonder whether they had more.
To a greater extent fEN: 4rr1k/1bq1n2p/pp1ppbp1/8/2P1PPQ1/1P2B2P/P3N2K/1BR3R1 b - - 0 30
In this position Shaposhnikov played 30...Apparently nf5 in 3 seconds.

Here 21.f4 in 8 seconds.
In the game against Chessbase member Rainer Knaak he played quite a few sequentially moves in a row...
