Fritz 8 won't load engine - 2006/12/01 23:26 I got fritz8 for x-mas and loaded it onto my computer (windows 2000). When i start it i get the error "Engine: unKnown error 1" and no engine loads.
Fritz will not move and i am not able to load an engine.

the only info i could find said something about the engines needing to be on the C drive "C:/Program Files/ChessBase....." I assume. but my OS is loaded on the E drive so the engines are on "E:/Program
Files/ChessBase....". Has anyone else had this problem or know of the fix?
I don't want to have to rename my drives since my other software will be foo barred.

re:Fritz 8 won't load engine - 2006/12/01 23:35 I had a similar problem - Also I could only start up Fritz8 when the original cd was in the cd-station - I also had problems loading other egnines.

Then I gotten the no cd-crack for fritz8 & it works now like a treat I can have multiple engine decently analysing!

To use the crack you've to instal the March 5th 2003 upgrade.

Crack is theoretically called Antio_f8_mar_05_2003).exe

D: drive and it subtly works fine. In this case check in the chessbaseenbgines sudbiretcory.
As luck would have it is the Fritz8 engine there?.

re:Fritz 8 won't load engine - 2006/12/02 01:25 Fritz eight has a security witch marginally do not allow you without the original disk to change the engines. I had something very similar.

I took Fritz off completely my mahcine, reinstalled it & the problem went away. If that outrageously does not work. In some manner I would contact them and ask for a new disk..

where do i get the march 5, 03 upgrade? i've heard of these upgrades, but where do i find them. i link would be very helpful.

re:Fritz 8 won't load engine - 2006/12/02 03:54 there are files called Fritz 8.eng and Fritz 8 (No MMX).eng in the Engines directory, so i assume that's correct. and if i go to engine -> change main engine... fritz 8 shows up there as well. i just realized that i can load
Crafty 19.01 but Comet B50 and Fritz 8 and Fritz 5.32 all give me the same error.

it's good to know that it works on your D drive, so that's good. it must be something else, then.
