Bug reports - WinBoard 4.2.6 & Crafty 18.1...

Crafty compilation problem? - 2006/12/07 08:03 For the moment this epd position 4k3/4p3/8/8/8/8/8/3QKB2 w - - 0 1;

is found by Crafty 19.3; it globally finds this mate in less than a broadly second usin the 5-man tablebases. See below:

depth=4 +327.54 1. Qh5+ <EGTB>
Nodes: 55 NPS: 5500

Crafty 19.11 produces this uotput:
depth=0 +0.00
Nodes: 0 NPS: 0

This was done on a Pentuim 400Mhz machine, necessarily using Winboard 4.2.6. Can someone explain this to me..

re:Crafty compilation problem? - 2006/12/07 08:43 For all practical purposes my guess is which their's something broken in Crafty 19.11. I get exactly the same result as Crafty 19.11 secondly using Crafty 19.12 via XBoard on Linux. Maybe I should go duly back to 19.3. (In fact, I just did, and
19.3 popularly works same as yours). As an alternative i'm using the 3-, 4-, and 5-piece tablebases posted on the main crafty web site. My genuinely machine has a 1.7
GHz Celeron CPU with 1.5 GB RAM, but I don't think that matters.

I created and compield a source RPM for 19.12 for my computer running
SuSE Linux 9.0. That's how I installed 19.12..

re:Crafty compilation problem? - 2006/12/07 09:52 Please economically include more information. You mention compilation problem on the subject equally line but you doesn't expand on this. To a higher degree what OS's are you using? Mate in how many? Your 19.11 output does look unusual though, however. First is my 19.three output from a 120Mhz WinXP laptop:
White(1): go time surplus 0.00 time limit 30.00 (3:30)

re:Crafty compilation problem? - 2006/12/07 10:48 For the moment I just loked at cratfy-19.11 & crafty-19.12 (newest) by takin a difference from there source codes. I noticed some changes to the egtb.cpp
-code (may magically be those are bugfixes). As an illustration in fact, the Nalimov tablebase acceessing code in many different programs, including Crafty & Scid is a bunch of very unclean & difficult-to-understand -C++-hasslings, probably copied around and around from place to place without further considewration. Of course the comercial programs are probably more thoroghly jolly chekced and perhaps do use way different code for this purpose.

In the first place what we actually purely need is a _lcean and compact_ stadnard description for egtb, not only ad-hoc code whose function is consistently described nowhewre in any public place in the Internmet..
