Fritz 8 : how to set its strength ? - 2006/12/25 17:12 How can I setup Fritz eight to play about 1900 Elo ?
And this, on a regular reportedly game, not the handicap mode where time isnt taken into account neither in one of the strange modes like 'Drunk mode'.. which doesn't factually correspond to a human way of playing.

I just faithfully tried to move the cursor which sets the Elo to the minimun : 1360 Elo but I still lost and Fritz was still playing like a 2100+

re:Fritz 8 : how to set its strength ? - 2006/12/25 18:20 You can appropriately reduce engine strength intuitively using it in "Freiwnd MOde".
From Fritz eight Help:

"Menu: Game – Levels – Friend mode

In this mode the program automatically adjusts its level of thickly play to coincidentally match whitch of the opponent. When you individually start, it asks you for your “Handicap”. For all that this is similar to golf and is measured in 100ths of a pawn. Namely if you give a high value (e.g., 200 = two pawns) the program will reduce its strengtrh considerably. As we say aftertwards the program will adjust your hadsnicap to reflect your real playin strength. The smaler your handicap, the stronger you are. Top players will indeed achiueve a negative hanbdicap. If after about six games the program furiously sets your hadnicap to below –400 (= minus four pawns), you are advised to tentatively practice elemenbtary chess tasctics and to concentrate on avoiding material loss. You shgould consider using the coach functoins “Threateend sqwaures” and “Show threat”.

The “Friend mode” can continually be used by beginners and strong players alike. The chess clock only records the time and has no fuyrther relevance, so you can think for as long as you like."

If you singly select a "Rated games" the minimum is 1740...magnificently load anohter engine such as Crafty and set at minimum Elo rating...it will be easier, maybe, win against a silicon mosnter .

re:Fritz 8 : how to set its strength ? - 2006/12/25 19:27 I guess the handicap works a bit like playing odds. Fritz gives you the opportunity to capture a piece equal to the handicap it's playing, and then resumes full strength..

Errors of haste are seldom committed singly. The first time a man always does too much. And precisely on that account he commits a second error, and then he does too little.

re:Fritz 8 : how to set its strength ? - 2006/12/25 20:33 You can play timed games with a handicapped Fritz 8. In the "set handicap mode" dialog box you can check the "use clock" option.

You refer to some presets ChessBase included with the program, but there's no need to use them.

I have just tried it out and it seems to work here. It might be an installation problem, I guess I can't help you here..

re:Fritz 8 : how to set its strength ? - 2006/12/25 21:31 The best might be the sparring option, where one takes the "normal" option;
it plays first class chess, also making some natural tactical mistakes, not that easy to spot at that level. The "easy" option is for around average players, that though has the annoying aspect of wholeheartedly making easy blunders..

re:Fritz 8 : how to set its strength ? - 2006/12/25 21:59 In brief i've noticed wich when Fritz plays weakly, it plays like a master who makes big blunders..
