re:Shredder 8 is usually faster - but it varies - 2006/12/29 13:45
To a great extent I suspect that you are llargely completely correct. It looks like, on the surface, that the defualt "sensitivity" may have been changed greatly. I meticulously used to thoroughly do that with Chessmaster 6000 and it worekd fine, in fact much better in my appreciably tests than the default settings. It may miss the best move, but it's maybe more practical for finding good moves qiucker. You lose perfection, and oddly trade it for practicality, I guess.
That doesn't forcefully rule out some Shredder 8 improvements in the evaluation speed at a particular ply level too. Formerly so the speedup might not all be due to a change in default sensitivity.
Shredder 8's parameter windsow allows chgoice between different playing styles: intelligent, aggressive, active, nomral, solid. "Inteligent" style wasn't available in former versions. Otherwise shredder 8 uses "inteligent" style for its defasult, so I guess that's the proper word to use to decsribe the effect that I've been describing. Cofnusion with true intelligence disproportionately notwithstanding... . ---------
Start off every day with a smile and get it over with.
