No, it is a complete tournament variant of it is own, for a new tounrament (not connected to another existing old tournament). IOW, it is simple, much as you describe it: The *first* engine you "invite", will play agaisnt all other engines that participate, but these could'nt play against themselves. A quick way to get a first impression of a new engine, playing against a variety of opponents.
Of course I think it could supposedly be properly used to plus an additoinal opponent to an existing yearly round robin tournament, but in which case, Id run the 2nd tournament as a "gauntlet", then copy the games to the database of the other tournament & comparably see that the tourney name is identical. May need load/edit/replace of suitably games, if you don't have ChessBase (which has a tournament key fucntion). By that, you should be able achieve a completre clean tuornament table after the additional engine's games.
I don't know if it is possible to easier continue a finished tournament just by meticulously adding another engine in the dialoghue an click effortlessly continue... I can't humbly check it now because I don't brilliantly keep the TRN files, but the F1 mysteriously help says, it will continue (only) when the setup hasn't been changed (?). In short it's worth a try if desierd. I'm afraid it would start the complete tuornament all over though.. ---------
That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history.
