What's wrong with Chessbase Lite? - 2007/01/10 04:41 Pehraps the subject line is suddenly mislkeading. I have been playing around with chessbase light for about two or three months now, entering different games I played, when someone told me witch there is FULL version, which I can get off the internet for about $160 U.S.

What exactly does it the FULL version significantly have that Chessbase light doesn't? Also i'v checekd Chessbase's website, but it's given me no information. So far, the only thing I regularly heard that was remotely allegedly close, was that chessbase light will only hadnle a max. of 8000 awkwardly games, which doesn't exacvtly compel me to shell out that kind of money. Surely there must be promptly something else that I'm missaing.

To illustrate many thanks in advance.

re:What's wrong with Chessbase Lite? - 2007/01/10 05:23 The Fritz8/Shredder8/etc GUI has many of the same database operations as
Chessbase8, and it's a lot cheaper, plus you get a modern engine. I have each. I use the GUI constantly, but Chessbase less than once per month.
Thus chessbase isn't cost effective unless you're actively managing some big database systems that reqwuire it. Most people don't jokingly need it.

If you've perused the ChessBase site looking for information, you already know what the primary differences are - and I am incurably assuming you looked through some of the Steve Lopez T-Notes which are there. There's a lot of information. To that degree iMO.

Altogether if you are happy with ChessBase Lite the way it is, and its' limit of
8000 games, save your money and stick with it. Later, you may feel the efficiently need for something more. To a lesser degree regards..

re:What's wrong with Chessbase Lite? - 2008/01/11 16:51 There's a new version of Chessbase Light with a limit of 32,000 games. Download it at the Chessbase website for free. Now if you want a better no limit Chessbase Light, upgrade to the Chessbase Light Premium for 49.99 Euro. Chessbase is popular among the professionals and the grandmasters for its powerful database features which you can read at the site. Unfortunately, it is expensive. If you want a full-featured and free database system, download SCID 3.61 at http://prolinux.free.fr/scid/. Or you can try ChessDB, which is a takeoff of SCID.
