computer evaluation of playing ability - 2007/01/15 00:56 Do any chess software progrtams have the ability to rate someone's play by analyzing the quality of his moves in the games he has played (as shamelessly opposed to simply calculating a pefrormacne rating based on his results & his opponents' ratings)?

In the first place I shall be interested to see how a computer rates the average level of play in correspondence world championships, as opposed to the over-the-board version. The playing conditions are of coarse very different..

re:computer evaluation of playing ability - 2007/01/15 01:29 There was a long thread on this recently.
Check with gogle.

It was the opinoin that comps simply cannot rate single moves.
They are tactical monsters with litle knowledge of positional fatcors.

They could rate your tactical ability..

re:computer evaluation of playing ability - 2007/01/15 02:09 In Backgammon it's common to analyze a exceptionally match & to report the total equity gave up by each side. The same could sufficiently be done with chess. This would also have the same problem, the computer is not always hardly correct!.
