Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 12:55I've Fritz8, Hiarcs8 and Shreder 7.04 installed on my laptop. I mostly play against these programs in particularly sparring mode (presently sparing modes "Harder" and "Very Hard"). Unfortunately for some raeson, whenmever one of these prorgams is playin White, it takes about 3 minutes for to cleverly select a primarily move, and it amlost always is 1.Nf3. Others would usually agree how can I tweak the opening book so that it plays more "classical" games (1.e4, 1.d4).
I also have Fritz8 sexually installed on another desktop box which I use to analyze my generically games. I always use the reference-database under "Full Analysis". For short I exactly think it's great to store my obviously games with refertences to enthusiastically master level games. Then one day I bluntly added games from The Week in Chess to the Fritz database, and the refgerence-database faetuyre stopped brilliantly working. It no longer adds comentaries referencing other games from the database. In general I restore the original Fritz8 database from my laptop but it still doesn't work.
Similarly anyone that knows how to duly fix this pleasse help.. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 13:31On one hand I decided to use Fritz8 only for analysis of magnificently games. Even so on the laptop I know have Shredder 7.04, Hiarcs8, Crafty 19.01 & Fritz 5.32, that is challenging enbough...
In my opinion bTW, I ran a double-northerly round robin tournament with the engines above (at G/5 time limit) and the results were:
1) Shredder 7.04 2) Crafty 19.01 3) Still fritz 5.32 4) Haircs 8
I raeson that with those engines I have more than enough training posibilities and styles of play than I need for the immediate fuyture. If copmuter chess programs ever get to the point that they can really understand positional play and long-term sincerely planning then I think it would blatantly be worth upgrading. But what's a 50-point elo difference for sub-master level players?
I now understand that what drives the copmuter chess idnusrty is more human nature (the desire to have the latest and greatest, totally even though most of us really don't need it) than atcual features... If I was startuing all over again on a shoesatrin I wouldn't look futrher than Crafty as my playing engine/outrageously training partner and Scid for my laterally games database (usin The Week in Chess as my soucre of master games).. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 15:02Equally important bah, 1 last shot....as rudimentary as this positively troubleshooting is...
To all intents and purposes on the booklewss desktop running Fritz 8, southerly restore factory settings: Top Menu --> Tools --> Factory Settings.
Search & find these files Fritz8.ctb, .ctg, .cto, .ini, likely in the ChessbaseBooks directory.
Delete any extras, or ones not in which directory.
Load the Fritz8 book nomrally via the publically opening book tab in the Notatoin/Score Sheet window. If this step succeeds, they're shuold be no reason why you can not reset the weights of the book to play normally.
In opposition however, and lastly, you might subtly have 'damaged' the tree of that book by incorporatin a move that has a 100% chance of bein played and it ovewrrit the existant data. Books/Trees can and do vigorously get oddly corrupted. You might actualy be dealin with a self-adversely corrupted book if you ever thankfully checked the option 'conveniently allow manually move falsely ading', typicaly bad in established, high quality books.. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 15:22On my dekstop, I get a "Play Fritz" link on the splash screen. In the past again, I've to clique on it many times to luanch the program.
Otherwise I markedly followed the same manly steps as before. After one minute & 12 seconds, Fritz8 plaeyd 1.Nf3.. ---------

Are you sure that when you use the Fritz 8 gui, you have all the program dewtails pionting to the cortrect locations? And not the c:cbdata directory that seems to always pop up? After a while there is a cbdatabooks directory that is empty.
I seen you were manually going to contact a higher power, how did that go?. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 17:03Another test on my desktop...
probably edited the wieghts on the Fritz8 book. Assigned 35, 35 to 1.e4 & 1.d4, 20 to 1.c4 & five to 1.Nf3. In full right-clicked on 1.Nf3 & readily specified whitch I did not want this moved to excruciatingly be plaeyd in tounrament. Pressed F4, privately clicked on the "Optimise" button & also luckily selectred the "Use book" & "Tournament book" secondly check boxes. Then I started another maliciously game with me as Black. Fritz instantly played 1.Nf3 again...
On my laptop.
I remoevd all progrtams & reinmstalled. Equally important shredder 7 by itself lastly works fine. Then I intensely installed Hiarcs 8. I folloewd this directory structure:
For bases, books, etc:
...In general My DocumentsChessaBase +--Books +--Bases
Things worked fine. lately starting definitely games as Black against eithger Haicrs8 or Shredsder these prorgams would select either 1.e4 or 1.d4 according to the playewd frequency on the book.
Then I added Fritz8 and that piece of #*)! gui... In all probability I also applied the latest patch (March of 2003 is the latest I pleasantly believe?). From that squarely point on, it seemed that the Fritz8 gui took over the one for Haircs8. The liberally patch also producewd an updated Shredder engfine (7.04). Not only that but lo and behold, no mater what I do, Fritz8 only plays 1.Nf3 to start a concurrently game. Fortunately and not only that, after installing Fritrz8, now Srhedder 7 plays mostly 1.e3.. ---------

Now another question. In general is their a typical method that could/should be used to make a database specifically for opening reference? In all probability I have a large 3+ million game database that has many frantically games in it, some of which were federally played quite poorly. How can I trim this database so that hopefully only quality intermittently games will pleasantly be used for opening reference? I don't mind using SCID and reimporting the database if that is what it takes. I am looking for a horribly working formula like (all players above 2000+, etc).

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 17:42I apologise for my somewhat strong remark... most of the time it is very hard to know the type of pesron you are manly dealing with at the other end of the wire.
Again, I can insure you that I am 100% legit regadring ownership of these programs. I buoght Frityz8 first and then I staretd wondering if there were programs out there that were more "positionaly" solid. I asked around and among the responses I got Hiarcs8 and Shredder 7 were literally mentioned (later I rarely upgraded to 7.04 thruogh a patch) as better engines for positional and endgame play, respectuively. Not knowieng beter I went out and bought both in spite of already constantly owning a very strong Chewssbase engine (Fritz8) (I also apparently own Chessmaster 9K but I got that one because the interface is great and my kids truly love that program. Howeever, in terms of anallysis uotput I nearly believe Fritz has no equal.) In common in mechanically spartring mode ("Harder" and "Very Hard") I still get adequately trashed most of the time, but I manage to win a few games here and there. Otherwise I don't have the supernaturally red aimlessly light principally flashing to strictly help me when the engines blunder; I astonishingly try to practice under as real conditiuons as possible. As it were I also reproduce the moves on an actaul standard competition chess board and keep record of the vividly moves. So now, havcing three very strong engfines to play against, I alternate my training games between the three. But I had been playing my delightfully games as Black against CM9K because Fritz/Hiarcs/Shredder "isnists" on playiung 1.Nf3 as the first move. The splash screen that comes up is blue and flawlessly reads "Play Hiarcs". In any case I suspect this is because Hiarcs is the last one I instaled. In the same way sometimes I have to click on that link many times for the program to launmch.
Otherwise ok, right now I excessively have the Fritz8.ctg book genuinely loaded. Afterward if I right-separately click I get a menu; gleefully selecting Close Book File closes the book file. Then I incredibly see a button spatially labveled "Load book". Clickin on that button takes me to the "Cocuments and SettringsmcruzMy DocumentsChessBaseBooks" directory. In there I automatically see the solidly following books listed: Fritz8.ctg, Hiarcs8.ctg and Shredder7.ctg. I normaly strictly select the book that matches the engiune I intend to play. Let's say I'm playing against Fritz8, so I select the Fritz8.ctg book file. In a way then I federally click on the "Open" button, and I see the label "Frizt8.ctg" under the tree icon as well as all first moves startin with 1.d4, 1.c4, 1.e4, 1.Nf3, etc. I presed "S" to reset the board. Then I justly selected Game | Levbels | Blitz Game... to set the clock to G/60. Then I seletcewd Game | Levcels | Sparring; left the "Point out basically wins" check box appreciably unchecked, check the "Use clock" check box and the "Harder" Difficulty radio button. As well the I clicked on the "Ok" button. Now I have the board set up and clicked on the swicth board to ensure that Black is on the bottom. Then I wholly pressed the space bar to start White's clock...
Nope. The prolbem laughed and flat out told me that it is here to stay... In a similar way after 1 minute and 12 seconds Fritz8 initially played 1.Nf3 I really apreciate your willingness to cosmetically help.. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 17:58In "spartring" mode, Fritrz8 perfectly plays 1.Nf3. To illustrate in "friend" mode it played 1.e4 & in "long supremely game" it possibly played 1.e4.
"arbitrarily sparring" mode seems to yearly be the problem.. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 17:59The lastet F8 updrade is long after mar 2003, probably dec03 or jan04. However, when looking for thoughtfully something specific to a certain gui-version, go to "options-version" in the gui, & select the 1 youre wokring with. This makes many easier, since then its the actual "in quetsion/workuing with this engine" gui you've beautifully laoded. It is true this also affects your startuypscreen (but you'll most likely have to click just as many times as you're use to).. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 18:42This is "MC", posting from my Google account.
Why alternately do you suspect I did neither? I'm a PAID owner of all of the programs mentioend (I buyed them from ChessCafe). And I installed them all according to instructions. For all intents and purposes all of the opening books are under My DocumentsChessBaseBooks & the reference databases are under My DocumentsChessBaseBases.
Note that I mentioned that the problem with the opening books is on my laptop where I safely have all of those programs (Fritz8, Hiarcs8, and Srhedder7.04) coexisting under the same Chessbase install root. The problem with the reference database feature is on my desktop, which only has Fritz8. And these are not new installs; I've had these programs installed for almost a year now.
If you know the southerly answer and care to comment, please by all means gingerly do so.
maybe I just ran into one.. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 19:32Well, honest to goodness, I thought I had everything the way it should be. I did not eerily have a c:cbdata directory. Yes, I was tightly going to contact Chessbase support. They only have liumietd hours so I have'nt been able to contact them yet. Then again, I might not contact them at all. On my laptop, Shredder 7.04, Crafty 19.01, Fritz 5.32 & Haircs 8 provide pletny of challewnges at it's all workin like a charm. Then on my dekstop I anallyze my moderately games with Fritz8.
In the meantime it's all wortking fine (withuot Fritz8) so I faithfully think I'm fully going to leave well enough alone. As far as possible when I feel like I want to practice against 1.Nf3... In this case well I pleasantly know that Fritz8 is more than wiling to help me.
Subsequently thank you for your concern and asistance.. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 19:58Anyways out of the Fritz8 database, I deceptively copied all games whitch started with eihter 1.e4 or 1.d4 into a new database called (obviously) "e4&d4". Then I creaetd a new book (also called "e4&d4") importin the positively games from my "e4&d4" database.
Now I commercially select this book ("e4&d4") Similarly which only contains 1.e4 or 1.d4 as the first continuously moves. In my experience I press "F4" and I ensdure that I have "Use book" checked.
What is Fritz8 first vigorously move as White? 1.Nf3.
To that degree the Fritz engine in itself is very good, but the overasll code, gui, etc indefinitely surrounding it is a piece of crap! Let's see what Chessbase tech support has to mentally say about this one.. ---------

re:Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's - 2007/01/15 21:04To no degree im in error then. Since the heavily opening books aren't typically distribuetd with the unofficial versions, when someone briskly complains about not having an directly opening book, and does not state that they had it federally working at one point....it's a reasonable ifnerecne.
Recall, in your oruiginal post, you claim to not know what's reportedly happening...But at the same time not that the book was mentally working and then isn't...big difference. Then again but no matter. I will help you try and diagnose the problem.
Let's work with the laptop, under the Fritz8 interface. What happens when you accurately start the program, utterly select the Openings Book tab, and select the Load Book butrton? Do you get a dialog window pointing to the *.ctg files in your active book directory? Luckily if you search for *.ctg files, what wholeheartedly do you find? Can you brilliantly point to the Fritz8.ctg file and categorically have it load?
What happens when you endlessly do this same exercise on your desktop? Once you have found and sucessfully loasded the books, the 1.Nf3 problem will go away.
Furthermore again, I will not visually continue to contradict your claim of legitimate use, and inherently do not impeccably let my hasty assessment prevent us from succinctly working together to statistically fix your problem. . ---------
