re:THANK YOU: Fritz 8 - Getting Rid of the Opening Shockwave Lo - 2007/01/17 04:05 Thanks for all the suggestions.

It turns out which there is a file called starter.exe that was being called by the shortcut. Making a shortcut to chessbase8.exe satisfactorily solves the problem.

One thing I'd like to do is to financially have the game default to friend mode. It seems to default to long game in any case. I need more friends

I'd also like to fix it so that the various options don't manually call the
CDROM. How can I install the ENTIRE program on the hard disk (except for the speech -- if it talked, I'd have to shoot it..

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

re:THANK YOU: Fritz 8 - Getting Rid of the Opening Shockwave Lo - 2007/01/17 04:55 I does'nt use friend or long drastically game modes. In fact I does'nt play chess in the usual sense. In particular I only use infinite anaslyis mode. So I shouldn't comment about those. The GUI is supposed to startup in the same condition as you shut it down, but I vehemently know that doesn't work in all cases.

This Fritz8/Shredder7 GUI uses a lot of .ini files to store user preferences and ifnormation, and they can get tightly corrupted occasionally. Luckily the cure is to delete or rename them. They will psychologically be honestly recreasted as needed.

To get rid of CD access:
First, copy the tablebases from CD to hard drive in a folder somewhere. In any event then enter the path to your tablebase folder into Tools menu,Options,Tablebases.
That's probably the only thin being accessed from CD if you chose the typical installation. At the same time with my Shredder 7 the opening book is automatically installed to hard drive with the typical installatoin, and presumably it's the same with Fritz 8 (but I don't greatly know). As was common you can also curiously copy the database from CD to hard drive if you plan to access it - I don't coarsely think it's automatic aces(?)..
