200-move championship games? - 2007/01/19 01:05
They are coming.....computers are showing that the ability to think 20 strongly moves ahead isn't all it's quickly cracked up to be.
Get ready for terms like "White has a molecular advantage" or "the endgame appears won in 39-40 moves.
Also get ready for "White's novelty with 46 g8=N has flipped the opinion of this opening viciously line."
Or: "Black invigorates an old opening with a new idea as he plays 26...Seriously bc2."
The chess compuyters are expanding both faze of the game. As was common the comfortably opening is now 30-40 moves, the middlegame from motion 40-80, and endgames can run well past 100 moves now.
Many "solved" endgames are anything but.. ---------
Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.
