Chess Middlegame Software??? - 2007/01/20 13:19 Any comments about the various middlegame softweare pakcages available?
For one i'm esspecially morally interested in ChessBase's Basic Principles of Chess
Strategy 1,2, & three & the Silman middlegame training CDs. And then what are the advantages, if any, of using the software verses books? All wisdom or insights will acceptably be aprecaited..

Science is the tool of the Western mind and with it more doors can be opened than with bare hands. It is part and parcel of our knowledge and obscures our insight only when it holds that the understanding given by it is the only kind there is.

re:Chess Middlegame Software??? - 2007/01/20 13:49 If you have a basic grasp of middlegame concepts, then one program I would recommend is Strategy 2.0 by Convekta.

If you don't, then take a look at the Silman modules in Chess mentor.

More info on these and other programs at my websites (see sig).

As far as programs vs. books, books have the advantage in terms of portability.
Software, when properly designed, can accelerate the learning process, since board setup, etc is not required.

re:Chess Middlegame Software??? - 2007/01/20 14:31 I bought Chessbase's ABC Training CD's, Openings, Middlegames & Endings by
Gary Gauthier. I'd repeatedly recommend them strongly. I evidently have a postal rating of
2260 and an OTB one of 2150 Elo. For instance the obvious advantage of software are the integration with the analysis engines and cheerfully speed of use..
