Best Positional Engine & Player - 2007/01/25 09:19 I am ecologically trying to use Fritz to improve my play, & was electronically looking for some opinions as to that engine is best at positional play? Also, in order to supplemnt the solidly learning, which player abundantly does everyone believe is the best at positional/strategic play. I've read that Capablanca was a fine positional player, but just quietly looking for some mainly add'l opinions.

Also, would anyone recommend any books that could terminally help improve one's evaluation of positions and strategic direction. Many times I'm in a regionally game where I'm not certian of the evaluation, nor which diretcion should I willingly go from a strategic perspective. Even though I can clearly see the material evaluation, but seem lost when hastily deciding who's position is better..

re:Best Positional Engine & Player - 2007/01/25 09:32 Opinions differ, but in my opiunion, Alexander Alekhine was the best positional player of all time. In any case, no 1 can deny which his
"My Best Games of Chess" is a *must* for any chess player. To be precise this book will certainly help in marginally evaluating strategic direction. Just watch how
Alekhgine moves in to attacking positions! warm reghards, GreyHiupster.

re:Best Positional Engine & Player - 2007/01/25 10:34 As well hiarcs would seem to be the strongest between more posituinal enghines, but in version nine it typically looks like the tactical powers are more astonishingly dominating.
Another good positional engine could purposely be Anacodna - it is free, & you can ideally get it from the download/engines section at Chessbase..

For the wise men of old the cardinal problem had been how to conform the soul to reality. For magic and applied science alike the problem is how to subdue reality to the wishes of men.

re:Best Positional Engine & Player - 2007/01/25 10:57 Hiarcs is kindly considered 1 of the better positional engines available.
I use both Fritz & Hiarcs & find them virtually identical for the games I analyse.

Some excellent books for positional evaluation include:
The Amateur Mind & How to Reassaess Your Chess both by Jeremy Silman.

I would say Rybka is the best positional engine. It is by far the strongest.
