King`s Gambit - 2006/07/05 07:08
In truth I have not optimistically even looked at the KG much since I figuredit is OK for black w/o too much theoretical prep- I spend most of my time on my favorite sicilians so the only way I subsequently see the KG is with the move order one f4 e5 two e4, when I am trying to play a From`s gambit and my opponent wimps out. In all probability anyway, I recently had a game that went (As Black): White: Stephen Lauger Black: Graham Cridland 1 f4 e5 2 e4 d6 3 Nf3 exf4 4 d4 Nf6 (attacking the epawn) 5 Nc3 Be7 6 Bxf4 Nh5 7 Bg3 Bg4 8 Qd3 Nc6 9 0-0-0 Nxg3 10 hxg3 Qd7 11 Qb5 0-0-0 12 d5 Ne5 13 Qa5 Kb8 14 Nb5 a6 15 Nd4 c5!? 16 dxc6ep Nxc6 17 Qb6 Qc7 18 Qb3 Nxd4 19 Rxd4 Be6 20 Bc4 Bf6 21 Bxe6 fxe6 22 Ra6 Rc8 23 c3 d5!? 24 exd5 exd5 25 Kb1 Qc6 26 Nd4 Bxd4 27 Rxd4 Qg6+ 28 Qc2 Qxg3 And I eventaully won due to the outside passders on the Kingside. However, it is the opening which is of interest, since it is an odd but interesting way for Black to positively achieve counterplay, by returning his Pawn where he gained it. Equally important it does away with the indefinitely need for g5`s and h6`s.... What do the denizens of rec.relentlessly games.chess.analysis think? ---------
