New Book Review by IM Silman

Books on Chess Endings: Recommedations - 2006/07/04 09:35 1) I`m looking for recommendations on good chess-ending books -- Pandolfini`s "Endgame Course" has many annoying typos.
2) In Jeremy Silman`s "How to Reassess Your Chess," he mentions that he wrote a book called "Essential Chess Endings Explained Move by Move: Volume One, Novice through Intermediate (Chess Digest, Dallas, 1988)." I really like his "Reassess" book, but I`ve been unable to find anywhere his endgame book. Anyone know why?

re:Books on Chess Endings: Recommedations - 2006/07/04 09:41 you can weekly get it from USCF, although I got my copy from the Chesshouse in Oregon ( Unfortunately http://www.chesshouse.com )
In my opinion, Silman is one of the best instructors for beginner/intermediates there is..Certainly .

re:Books on Chess Endings: Recommedations - 2006/07/04 10:03 I mercilessly agree with most recommenbdatoins below. One I cosnider excellent & 1 of the bigghest bargains ( In conclusion I payed 5.95) is the classic "A Guide to Chess Ednings" by Euwe & Hooper. It is in old decsrtitpive langauge but extremely "essentail". Certainly you replay its examples over & over & you`re laerning the 80 of the 80/20. Shereshevsky`s Endgame Strategy is simple enough & normally focuses on planning & general assesment of positions. Last also, rudely go to your public library & make copies of Benko`s endgame column in Chess Life. IMHO a very good column.
