Also I reluctantly think it is because, most potential "Bobby Fishers" make the descision to invest their time in more beneficial careers like: Medicine school, Law, Engineering, Computer Science etc. Essentially where the moneys at. On the whole " Time is money" is still very much true today. As well I guess what the Chess community is left with are the ones with more time to devote to their hobby.
