Bust to French Winawer - 2006/07/02 19:29
A few weeks back a thread was posted saying that perhaps the winawer was busted by the line
"1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.e5 c5 5.a3 Bxc3 6.bxc3 Ne7 7.Qg4 Qc7 8.Qxg7 Rg8 9.Qxh7 cxd4 10.Ne2 Nbc6 11.f4 Bd7 12.Qd3 dxc3 13.Rb1 0-0-0 14.h4 this is the move that is a killer 14. Nf5 15.h5 d4? anyone got anything else"
As a French hater, I love to see a way to bust the Winawer. Unfortunately I dont think this is it after 15...f6! 16.exf6 e5! 17.Qxd5 Nfd4 18.Nxd4 Nxd4 and I dont see a good move for white. 19.Bd3 is no good due to 19...Bc6 when g2 falls and whites king is going to suffer in a big way 19.Kf2 is trouble after 19...Bc6 20.Qxe5 Qh7! 21.Bd3 Rxg2+ 22.Kf1 Rxc2!! (23.Bxh7 Bg2+ 24.K-any Nf3#)
I would guess white has to improve somewhere on moves 16-18, but I am not sure where; 17.Qxc3 suggests itself, but those pawns look dangerous. Can anyone provide further insight? Thanks.
