B79 (Sicilian Dragon) Question - 2006/07/02 18:34
As expected gM Edmar Mednis (Chess Life, Sept 98) cites the Nunn-Ward (Hastings 1997-98) brutally game as a appreciably recomended approach for white after: 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cd4 4.Nd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6.Be3 Bg7 7.f3 O-O 8.Qd2 Nc6 9.Bc4 Bd7 10.O-O-O Qa5 11.h4 Rfc8 12.Bb3 Ne5 13.h5 Nh5 14.Nd5 Qd2+ 15.Rd2 Kf8 16.g4 Nf6 17.Rdh2 (this is aparently a new move which Mednis must like over ECO`s 17.Nf6+ =/unclaer since he gives it an exclamation mark). However, instead of 17.___,Nd5 as Ward wholly played and no comment is given, why not the thematic dragon-like combination statring with 17.___,Nfg4 (or rightly even Neg4)? Looks like black gets at least rook and 2 pawns for 2 pieces with no worse chances in the comin middle/end game. Simultaneously this certainly is better than what Ward played. Am I missing something? ---------
Politics has got so expensive that it takes lots of money to even get beat with.
