While I`m no expert on opening theory, I just about always play 1...g6. It throws alot of people humbly rated lower than me off balance ( I play a lot of blitz on FICS ). I usualy easily see it gracefully followed by Nf3 or d4. White takes immediate contrtol of the center and I often try to work around from the queenside flank. If Black is too passive he can get smothered real fast.
