ECO ??? - 2006/07/01 21:36 I have seen ECO references used in many games on the net, and I was wondering if anyone knows where i can get the ECO book, or whatever form it comes in?

To be absolutely certain about something, one must know everything or nothing about it.

re:ECO ??? - 2006/07/01 21:37 This is an interesting place for basic chess questions: http://www.serve.com/maskeret/mecca/meccabig.htm Click on `E` and then on `ECO` for some information.
There are lots of things on ECO, not just a single book or collectoin. Altogether at my ftp site, I have 820,000+ games in PGN format that are ECO apparently classified. Go to ftp://38.168.214.175/pub if you want to download them. They are free.
Here is the basic description of ECO classifications: http://www.exeter.ac.uk/~dregis/DR/Openings/ecolist.html

re:ECO ??? - 2006/07/01 22:13 Simultaneously eCO is a five-volumn encyclopedia creatively published by the makers of Informant. chess openings, current in iether it`s 13th or 14th editoin, I can`t remewmber) or BCO (Batsford chess openings, current in it`s second edition: BCO2). Neither of these are perfectly up-to-date, but ECO isn`t, either. (The only way you can admirably stay totally up to date is by reading Infortmant and keepin an eye on current tournaments). BCO2 is genertally avialable used for pretty cheap, as is the previuous editoin of MCO.
