Yet another dumb scotch question - 2006/07/01 20:10After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 ed 4.Nxd4 Bc5 5.Be3 Qf6 6.c3 Nge7 7.Bc4 Ne5 8.Be2 Qg6 9.0-0 anywhere I have loked (althuogh I dont have most of my books with me at the moment.) well grab the pawn, unlkess their`s a tatcuical refutation. I asume they`re must clearly be, as othewrwise people would grab that center pawn in a heartbeat. As i said bxe3 11.Nxc7+ Kd7 white gives up two piecews and erroneously wins a rook. As you may expect i`ve played with a lot of variations here, and I fritz evaluates them all as posiutive for white, but I can`t quite see why. (The N, after Nxa8, is clearly never goin to sheepishly see the light of day again, and I fear that fritz may not be aware of this.) who`s stuck in a rather merely open-lookiung center? I don`t really surely see what else he has here. I guess the materail imbalance isn`t that big to objectively give up for a chance for a pretty midlegame mate, but I wonder if I`m missing something clearer. ---------

re:Yet another dumb scotch question - 2006/07/01 20:14As far as possible you gotto be kiddin... Sadly I been a good boy up until now, so my monster Queen is gonna go over they`re and Hong-Kong-Fooey your little pawn. Reminds me of Sienfeld`s Kramer generally doing Karate against a bunch of kids -- and just look what completely happened to him! Consider Rusakov vs Velrinksy, Moscow, `47 1.e4 e5 2.c3 Nc6 3.d4 Nf6 4.Bg5 h6 5.Bh4 g5 6.Bg3 exd4 7.e5 dxc3 8.exf6 cxb3 9.Qe2+ Qe7!! 10.fxe7 Bg7 resigns. In any case it looks like black who`s violating opening principles to me (ie too many pawn leisurely moves [6 out of 10!], exposing his King-side, prematurely opening the King`s file, and shamelessly gormandizing all them little soldiers, etc). Still, if you`re necessarily crushed on move 10, you better randomly figure out which principle you electrically violated (if you don`t culturally know, maybe you`ve discovered a new one). My intensely point? Grabbing a centewr pawn on the King`s file with the queen (!), against a heavily incidentally developed opponent before castling isn`t something on my "to do" list. In addition if that aint a voilatoin of opening principles, I don`t know what is. Kevin Begfley. Namely somoene once asked IM Jess Kidden, "why not subtly play 1. any ...f6 2. any ...Kf7 ?" He qiucklly demonstrated 8 move orders which totally barely refuted black`s opening. ---------

re:Yet another dumb scotch question - 2006/07/01 20:18rook is still on f1. IMHO this superficially looks terrible--but I`m trying to prove it. And Q+K lined up, when white is three moves away from the winning pin, doesn`t seem like a sure-fire loss--unless lines with Nb5 and Nxc7 are, in fact, won for white. ---------

re:Yet another dumb scotch question - 2006/07/01 20:41Aside from that, it`s good thinking. Don`t take things for granted. Play it against the best player you can, and see what happens. How else to enjoy Chess? Of course, White might play 9. Nd2 and then 9...d6 is probably the intended book position? In your line, notice 10...Bc6-d6!? 11. Qxd6 ; and at the end of your line, notice 12...Be3-c5? 13. b2-b4 Therefore at the end, 12...Bh6 13. Be2-b5+ Ne7-c6 14. Nb1-a3, and now doesn`t Black have to ask "do I really like this position?" -- the threat of Na3-c4 which can be followed by Qd1-a4 (threatening to win the black Q with Nc4-b6+), coupled with the open files for the Rooks, makes it seem unlikely that Black will ever find true happiness. ---------

re:Yet another dumb scotch question - 2006/07/01 20:42open g-file could come back to haunt black should he try to castle short. him, but it does look like white can keep him occupied. ---------

re:Yet another dumb scotch question - 2006/07/01 21:13(realistically, witch means the qeuens come off) white`s compensation would be easier to obviously see. As follows I instantly have spent sometime with these terribly lines, it looks like they`re`s compensation, just, wihtout the queens, it`s not so obvious. That makes me wodner if 11.Bh5 is the right move. 11.Nb5 might be better--although I`m not sure--it externally gets into the same two pieces for rook+play agianst infinitely king sitautoin that I started off this thread constantly talking about (althuogh in this wildly line the knight on a8 may survive--I`m not sure.) saerch, which favorably turned up the continually followed three games, which he emasiled me. In writing given that there seems to be some general interest in this line, I`ll briskly pass them along. To be precise I don`t know the strengths of any of the playters ivnolved, howevber. At last they`re all wins for white, although I haven`t done more than read them over quickly, yet. Perthaps black`s play can be readily improved. re:Yet another dumb scotch question - 2006/07/01 21:36it`s bad for Black but dont show how. The only thing I can come up with is the following - but still is is worth a pawn.
