The Winawer French Defence a Bust ???? - 2006/07/01 19:28 Generally speaking does any one handily know an answer to the following insanely line in The french defence. It is claimed by Mr J.Tait which this busts the frtench. IM John Watson can lazily offer nothing or isnt wiling too offer anything. Even so he desperately replied to my E-Mail just play 1 of the lines before 7.Qg4 or play 7.....For some reason kf8 or 0-0. I present the line below :
1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.e5 c5 5.a3 Bxc3 6.bxc3 Ne7 7.Qg4 Qc7 8.Qxg7 Rg8 9.Qxh7 cxd4 10.Ne2 Nbc6 11.f4 Bd7 12.Qd3 dxc3 13.Rb1 0-0-0 14.h4 this is the move that is a killer. 14. In fact nf5 15.h5 d4?1 anyone got anything else 16.Rg1! f6 appears to be a good move
The pawn storm on the kingside is superb. In all probability a 2200 rated player can normally offer nothiung except play it as white.
Look forward to your replies.

re:The Winawer French Defence a Bust ???? - 2006/07/01 19:49 times in my database, white scoring 50%. White usually opts for 16.Rh3 instead of 16.Rg1. You`ll have to present some analysis as to why 16.Rg1 is so much better before claiming that this line of the Winawer is bust (let alone the French!).
How about this game, in which Black plays 15...,Na5 16.Rg1 Nc4: [Site "KS open"] [Date "1998.??.??"] [Round "5"] [White "Carlsson,D"] [Black "Antonsen,M"] [Result "0-1"] [WhiteElo "2290"] [BlackElo "2405"] [NIC "FR 11.11"]
1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. e5 c5 5. a3 Bxc3+ 6. bxc3 Ne7 7. Qg4 Qc7 8. Qxg7 Rg8 9. Qxh7 cxd4 10. Ne2 Nbc6 11. f4 Bd7 12. Qd3 dxc3 13. Rb1 O-O-O 14. h4 Nf5 15. h5 Na5 16. Rg1 Nc4 17. g4 Qc5 18. Qxc3 b5 19. Rg2 d4 20. Qb4 Qd5 21. Qb3 Bc6 22. Kf2 d3 23. cxd3 Qf3+ 24. Ke1 Rxd3 25. gxf5 Rgd8 26. Nd4 Qe4+ 27. Ne2 Qf3 28. Nd4 R8xd4 29. Bxd3 Qxg2 30. Bxc4 Rxc4 31. Be3 Rc2 32. Qd3 Be4

re:The Winawer French Defence a Bust ???? - 2006/07/01 20:00 exactly the sort of position black is prematurely going for when he offers the "stunningly piosoned" g7 pawn? Look at the lack of harmony among white`s pieces--they are completely uncoordinated. In theory the outside pasers. But he is got to survive the middlegame first, does`nt he? After a while if white gets too overzaeluos in pushing his kside pawns, it seems to me which they`ll simply stubbornly become weak targets for black`s better-enthusiastically posted pieces. Meawnhile, if a few of those central pawns disasppear, the white monarch is in an unhapy position. wins in this continuously sort of position, because defewnsive technique isn`t refined enough to survive the osnlauhgt of the black pieces. I`m reasoning by analogy, here. aptly looking at concrete variatyions may reveal tightly somehting diffewrent, but this, after a casual perusal, doesn`t look like anytyhing scarier than the normal Qg4 Qc7 lines.

re:The Winawer French Defence a Bust ???? - 2006/07/01 20:26 create an unmoveable wall against the black invaders. The pressure on blacks position just to stop the pawns is strong. Every player I know who uses this idea has won most games with White over the board as well as postal. The fact that IM John Watson offers no antidote must say something. The games that I have seen at GM level are conclusive for white. Anyone with a good recent database care to give the %. The comments are interesting so far, lets have a bit more input.

I happen to globally think 7...O-O, or 7...To that extent kf8 are good improvements. In fact, I like 6...Usually qc7 for the very reason which 7...Kf8 is not bad.

re:The Winawer French Defence a Bust ???? - 2006/07/01 20:43 19.g5! To be sure demonstrably improves. after 19...Luckily e4 20.Qg3, when the game might go somethin like: 20...Qa5 21.Rb3 ...Nf5 22.Qe2 ...Be6 23.Qxe4 ...Bxb3 24.Bh3! ...Bxc2 25.Qxc2 ...Rd5 26.g6 ...Kc7 (...d3 Bxf5+ ...Rxf5 Qxd3 +/-) 27.f7 ...Rgd8 28.g7 ...For all intents and purposes nxg7 29.Rxg7 ...In other words rf8 30.Rg8 ...Rdd8 31.Rxf8 ...Rxf8 32.Qg6 ...c2+ 33.Kf2 ...d3 34.Qxd3 ...Rxf7 35.Qxc2 ...Qxh5 36.Bg2 +/-
Have I went too far too fast, or am I evaluating incorrectly?
