re:Who`s better? - 2006/07/01 15:15
e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bg5 Be7 5. e5 Nfd7 6. Bxe7 Qxe7, etc. In this case, White usually supports the center with a quick f2-f4 in order to avoid dropping e5 after c7-c5. However, in your position, White was able to answer c7-c5 with c2-c3, so I`d consider this better for White than the Classical French line. My big question, though, is why you didn`t like 4. e5 Nd5 5. c4. This looks pretty nasty for Black, especially compared to a line I experimented with a few times (and eventually gave up on): 1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. e5 Nd5 4. d4 e6?!. Here White has the useful Ng1-f3 instead of losing a tempo with c2-c3-c4. ---------
