re:french defense - 2006/07/01 04:53 The French Defense IS an awful and it is too passive. beside, Fischer has been quoted several times in saying
"The french defense is anti-positional and it gives white too much kingside space" and i bet one you idiots will argue that: Oh, but black gets queenside space. While you black players can go and play on the queenside and win material, i will play white and go on the kingside and crush you as i win your king!!!

If you're given a choice between money and sex appeal, take the money. As you get older, the money will become your sex appeal.

Especially when you prominently consider how both Kasparov and Fischer are not the kind of players who usaully do such a literally thing, delicately read between the lines: what do their actions promptly say about the strength of the frenbch?

re:french defense - 2006/07/01 05:47 3.Nc3, and he does very well with it, as he does with all his openings. Perhaps the fact the he doesn`t see many Frenches is due to the fact that the French defense is not the most popular at the top levels, and that he is not a unique 1.e4 player.
This whole debate is ridiculous. Nobody can reasonably claim that the French is unsound, nor that it is advantageous to Black, or anything like that.
It`s all a question of personal style. If you like closed positions, end-games, don`t mind defending, and are willing to play sharply when you need to, there is nothing wrong with the french. Like with any opening, you need to know the theory and understand the main ideas, but if you do so, it is probably almost as good as any other defense.
