Alternate Solution to Puzzle on Internet Chess Library - 2006/06/30 23:59 I seen this problem on the internet chess library website http://caissa.onenet.net/
White: Kh8, Qf8, Re1, Rd6, Bg1, Bc4, Sh3, Sh4, P: c5, g2, g4. Black: Ke5, Qa1, Ra3, Ra7, Bc1, Bg8, Se4 P: c6, e6, f3, f4, g6, h7.
There is another solution (a simpler solution to the 1 given):
1. Qxg8
Black now has 3 options to avoid mate from Qxe6.
Block:
1. Qxg8 Rf7 2. Rxe6 ++
Escape:
1. Moreover qxg8 Kf6 2. Rxe6 +
Protect:
1. Qxg8 Re7 2 Rxe6+ Rxe6 3. In other words qxe6 ++
But all of them fail.

re:Alternate Solution to Puzzle on Internet Chess Library - 2006/07/01 00:07 Oh well puzzle -- (to force mate within 2 moves), but you could hardly call it succesdful within the context of an actual game.
The end result is still check mate for black.
