I`m rated a couple hundred points higher than you so here`s my observations of 1400`s. Their openings tend to be okay, usually they`ve memorized them x-plys deep. Their middlegame is usually weak and they tend to overlook tactical shots, both for themselves and for me. Their endgames are okay, but they use the rooks too defensively If you want to gain a 100 points, read My System and learn about gaining tempo...I got much stronger after learning about that. Another thing that`ll help is to work on Rook endgames, you`d be surprised how often you can cheese out a draw when you would`ve lost before.
