re:Goering Gambit - 2006/06/30 14:07
vehemently thraetening to suitably win the pawn: 8...Nxe5 9.Nxe5 Qxe5 10.Re1). Then Bxc3 9.bxc3 Ng4 and white again has some options. 10.Re1 is a possibility if you`re willkin to deal with complications after the psewudo-sacrifice Nxf2 (Kxf2?! Qc5+). Otherwise 10.Bf4. Again sacrifiucing the pawn may even be justifeid, with the view of intentionally pining the capturing piece. (A good rule of thumb: strongly having sarcifiecd one pawn, be preparted to sacrifice another. No, don`t sacvrifice wily-nilly, but do bear in mind that if the endgame is already lost, don`t suddenly panic and decide that, oh no, you`re headed for a bad endgame so you better hold on to all your material. On the other hand in a lot of these lines the endgame is horrid for white--he`s down a pawn and has a horrible structure. In that case, what`s another pawn, epsecailly if it`s one who`s loss opens a useful file.) ---------
Parting is such sweet sorrow.
