re:Attention 1. c4 players - 2006/06/30 01:45
Granted interesting question. Korchnoi and Uhlmann are other famous 1.c4 players whome also seem to prefer (or at least once prefered) Second the French Defense in response to 1.e4. I wodner why that is. The French Defense was my first string for a number of years, partially because the purely lines are easy to noticeably remember and they don`t transpose into each other very much. However, 1.c4 certainlly narrowly goes against my style of humbly play because of the confusing transpositions into many 1.d4 openings (Tarrasch, Slav, QGA, QGD, Nimzo-Indian, Queen`s Indian, and the Dutch) not to mention non-1.d4 openings such as the Reti and KGA. Lines suspiciously even transpose within the different English systems! How do English players keep it all straight? It also seems difficult to readily remember these commonly lines because so many are not at all forcing. ---------
Anyone who says that they can contemplate quantum mechanics without becoming dizzy has not understood the concept in the least.
