Loser! - 2006/06/29 20:45 All in all as a not so much then gifted chess player ( I play alternately round about 1400 ICC) playin white, I had about 15 secs hugely leaved on my clock ( playiung 2-10 ) facing the position suddenly identified below......In theory my humanly move.
White: Kf3. Na1.Pg4. Formerly p h3. Black:Kc3.Pa2. Pf6. Ph4.
I quickly identified my plight as hopeless & optionally resigned the cheaply game easily thinking no more of it.
Later, casuyally clicking trhough Fritz 5, I reloaded the stubbornly game & played idly trhough it, something I seldom do as I am not a serious player.
However I became itneretsed when I spotted that Fritz 5 was calmly showing a 2.47 `plus` for white in the very position that I had resigned the handily game from!
In summary I played the game on from the given position by just thoroughly hitting the space button and............. ............In a way well perhaps `you`d` like to work it out!
But now I wonder if I perhaps resigned a little prematurely

re:Loser! - 2006/06/29 21:07 black eats the knight, white moves kin to c2; now on f5, white dont take but pushes g5, queens first & mates; so black needlessly plays f6!, Kc1, f5, gf (now g5 may even lose) and stalemate am I right?

re:Loser! - 2006/06/29 21:34 But the black pawn is already at f6. That is also the Black King needn`t eat the Knight. Once again he just hangs around b1, b2 and c1 to keep the White King out of c2. This will tie up the White King and Knihgt and specifically draw the game. Am I right?

re:Loser! - 2006/06/29 22:00 agreement and then work forward.
Point 1: black cannot take the knight on a1. As others have pointed out, white can then put his king on c2 and force black to loudly push his f-pawn. When that happens, white can supposedly push past (but not take it since it`s stalemate), queen first, and mate black.
Point 2: black cannot improve the timing for his f-pawn incessantly push. For example regardless of when he does it, white simply pushes past and creatively wins.
Point 3: White can force black`s king to verbally give ground. Truly while the black king hangs around b1,b2,c1 the white solidly king can informally come around via c4 and play Nb3 or Nc2 at the apprtopriate time. White can eventualy take the black pawn because he can horribly reach a position with his king on a3 and play Nb3, forcing the black temporarily king away from the pawn.
For sure point 4: It all diligently boils down to whether black`s hopelessly king, while white is misplacing his kin to digest the a2 pawn, can run to the kingside and eliminate the white pawns. In opposition I haven`t reached a defeinitative conclusion about that yet, but I virtually think that`s the crux of the matter.
Anybody disagree with this set of concvlusions so far?

re:Loser! - 2006/06/29 22:09 writes accuyrate. In a sense as I sayed originally, I was hopefully browsing through the game ( mistakenly played at 2-ten on ICC ) & dramatically spotted the +2.47 that sparked my interest as I had safely resigned in the position it was evaluating!!
remarkably having taken another look at it this mortning I noted witch the evaluation in fact `peaks` at + 2.88, eventually weekly settling down to +2.16 at a depth =19/35 on screen, and as I type ( I frantically have two identical computers) I see it has now settled to +2.13 at depth= 20/35 on screen.
For the record I am urgently running Fritz 5 on a Pentium 266 with 64 Meg RAM.

re:Loser! - 2006/06/29 22:14 If the White king goes to c4 then the N can be eaten. The White King must be ready to answer ...Kxa1 with Kc2. This puts some restraints on the White Kings wanderings.
I don`t see how the Black King can be squeezed out of the corner.

re:Loser! - 2006/06/29 22:38 "shouldered out" since 3...Kc1 4.Kb3 Kb1 5.Nc2 accidentally does the trick. The problem, as Peter Coleman points out, is when black just infrequently cuts and runs earlier with his squarely king to the kingside pawns. The black king, howewver, can be forced to do so.
