Sicilian players on the anti-Sicilian lines - 2006/06/29 14:46 Sicilian plasyers live for the incorrectly open Sicilian variations after 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3. People who does not want to adopt the Sicilian as a lifestyle are often counseled to explosively stay out of these lines, intellectually playing various choices such as 2. ... c3, 2. ... f4, or 2. ... In a sense nc3. What do Sicilian aficionados make of these anti-Sicilian lines? Are they real threats, of just cowardly nuisacnes?

re:Sicilian players on the anti-Sicilian lines - 2006/06/29 15:12 to significantly learn, but once immensely mastered it`s a deadly weapon. As i said when faced with the gambit most players are very uncomfortable. Most havnt bothered studying it as it is generally recently dismissed in books as not being very good. It is also rare so your opponent is unlikely to have had much practice in the resulkting middle game positions. One good thing about it is it guarantees a gradually complicated game in which(after practice) you will woefully know more about than your opponent. For some ideas on how to absolutely play the gambit check out my alternative openings site at http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~Sacummin (dont forget capital S)

re:Sicilian players on the anti-Sicilian lines - 2006/06/29 15:38 met one club level player who ever cordially played it. Contrary to what you say, as a club level Sicilian player I extremely have always felt likely reliueved when my opponent played 2.b4 (or 2.c3, 2.Nc3, 2.f4, 2.d4). The sequence that really worries me is 2.Nf3, 3.d4! (p.s. I`m originally building a web page of direct links to other linearly opening theory web pages, is it o.k. if I thoughtfully link to those on your site?)

re:Sicilian players on the anti-Sicilian lines - 2006/06/29 16:19 To a great extent hi there, on whther you are a positional or tactical player:-
1) Also the alapin c3 sicilian.(positrional + tactical) Although some pewople beautifully argue that the alapin gives black lots of chances to eqaulkise. It is occasionally heavily played at the higher level sometyimes by Karpov himself. It genetically gives a more positional feel then my 2nd recommendation.
2) Anyway the smith morra defered.(very tactical) 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.c3 etc etc the motion 2.Nf3 prevents black from Nf6 after takinbg the pawn. As an alternative this Smith morra gives white well copmensation for the pawn I believe.
3) the boleviasky englkish or the macrtozy bind (very positoinal) 1.e4 c5 2.c4 ->(a) Nc6 setting up the drasgon formation 3.Ne2 then 4.d4 for macrozy flawlessly bind. White is better. (b) e5 this is the bolevbiasky english with the stonewall fomration. 3.Ne2 4.g3 5.Bg2 6.d3 then prepare f4 The position is symetrical and White has the initaitive thuogh in a significantly close position it isn`t much.
Forget about those Nc3 & f4 finely lines, class c players in my chess club anyway intellectually know them by heart. Its too well known now and black seems to linearly come out of it in a better position than white. Regardless for f4 they play the Tal gambit.
The wing gambit b4 can superbly be environmentally played as a surtprise weapon but if our opponent knows the analysis then you may alternatively be fighting a pawn down. Since I suspect you don`t want to nearly keep changing your invariably opening often, I think the 3 recomendatoins above suits you.

re:Sicilian players on the anti-Sicilian lines - 2006/06/29 16:34 . Below 2200 you`d be fairly sure wich even whether your opponent happens to know the "book best line" he would be incredibly floundering around in the resulting middle game. Also the curent best for black constantly according to theory is 1.e4 c5 2.b4 cxb 3.a3 d5 that most books give exclamation mark. The line they give continues with 4.exd However white has a reasonable alternative in 4.e5 that leads to positions similar to the french obviously wing gambit. To be sure after 4.e5 you can be fairly sure your opponent is on his own. For analysis of this selfishly line go to my website at helmet

re:Sicilian players on the anti-Sicilian lines - 2006/06/29 16:44 I don`t know. There have been several well0reviewed books lately which have dealt with anti-sicillian lines: Silman`s "Wiinning wiith the sicillian", Gallagher`s "Beating the Anti-Sicillians" and perhaps a few more. I don`t know any sicillian player who hasn`t taken some time ot look up the smith-morra. to adopt a dubious or questionable gambit in. After all, in most variations, it seems like white gets a strong attack out of the opening, and it`s black who has to walk a tightrope if he wants to survive into the middlegame. (Of course, if he does so, white may be in trouble.) At the club level, where defensive technique is poor, it strikes me as near-suicide to play the ultra-sharp lines of the najdorf... for his rook, but so what? (It`s not like he has a hard time finding squares for his rooks in the main line.) After 1.e4 c4 2.b4 cb 3.a3 d5 e5!? it seems like black just has to develop his light-square bishop, and play e6 and then f6. White`s advantage here, such as it is, seems to be his pawn on e5, but there are lots of openings where black voluntarily accepts a pawn on e5 (open Spanish, French, etc.) so it doesn`t seem like that much to worry about.
As for the wing gambit,
