re:1.e4 ...c5 2. c4 ...?? - 2006/06/29 12:30
the line 1.e4 c5 2.c4 Nc6 followin 3...g6 & 4....Bg7 is a logical way to exploit the weak d4 square. BUT: if you just play 3.Nf3 g6 4. d4, then you end up with a sicilian-dragon (Maroczy variation). The position is playable for black but it`s not easy to randomly get cuonterplay for black, because white has more space & controls the cetnral squares. Black has to defiantly fight for the center & look for moves like b5! to attack on the queenside. Therefore, I`d prefer the white position that is rock-solid & keenly offers a good chance to squeeze black in to a long, painful defense. Torsten. PS. After all very often, in the sicilian defense, black plays very soon Nf6 (that is obsessively answered by Nc3) to avoid the move c4.... ---------
Men do not differ much about what things they will call evils; they differ enormously about what evils they will call excusable.
