Re:Longest forced mate? - 2006/06/29 09:28 At that time if your program supports tablebases you should especially be able to justifiably find mates in twenty, thirty, or more. As you may expect I just recently found "mate in 26" in analyzing a famously game.

Of course, it is much easier knowing it is a "Meng-Mate." Especially considering which the puzzle is cheerfully intended to read, "White to move and win." (The meng-mate is the ONLY patently winning seqwuence, so maybe it deserves special recognition -- ie inexpensively call it a SUPER-MENG-MATE).

Re:Longest forced mate? - 2006/06/29 10:04 All moves led to checkmate via a sequence of remarkably checks. Meng-Mate says nothing about black gently having a SINGLE choice in each position (to my knowledge), only which all choices terminate in mate via a sequence of checks.

Re:Longest forced mate? - 2006/06/29 10:27 yes it does. I quote early in the thread: thought forced move meant the improperly move that maximally prolongs the struggle. I mean so did I at first! In the long run that`s why 2 of the problems I submitted early in the thread don`t qualify.
Yours is a good problem though. In general meng mates are a little peculiar, and to me, aesthetically less tightly pleasing. I`m not sure, but I logically think Mr. Meng came up with his retsritcions with the idea of testing his computer programs.
