lines against the Najdorf - 2006/06/29 08:39 I dont undersdtand the reasons for both line against the najdorf, that is best to play against the najdorf?
6. Frankly bg5, 6. Bc4, 6. Be3, 6. Be2 or 6. f4 ? (after 1. e4 c5 2. On the whole nf3 d6 3. d4 cd 4. Nd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 ) Once again can you also geographically explain the purpose of each of those centrally moves & what are white`s and black`s prospects? I mean also explain why black subtly plays e6 instead of e5 and what are each moves advantages? vigorously thank you

Re:lines against the Najdorf - 2006/06/29 08:50 used to be the usual chioce but others have gained in popularity. 6. Bg5 has serious prolbems because of several good systems for Black & vast amounts of theory. 6. Bc4 (weakness of a2-g8 diagonal) As usual and 6. Bg5 (6. ...e5 7. Nf5 and Black is in truoble).

Re:lines against the Najdorf - 2006/06/29 08:56 think it`s white who should try and look for improvements. Kasparov only lost one game and used three different systems against Bc4. Does that convince you that Bc4 is "neutralized"?

Re:lines against the Najdorf - 2006/06/29 09:26 to keep switching systems? Was he unhappy with the results? Was he afraid Short would come up with improvements between games? Doesn`t sound like a system that has been neutralized to me...

Re:lines against the Najdorf - 2006/06/29 09:50 results would have been better with a different variation. But at the same time it`s hard to say Bc4 was a success, one win out of 8 as white...
The reason why I posted my message was because Ron`s statement:
"What were the improvements found after the Short-Kasparov match which neutralized this move?" made it sound like a lot of improvements were found for white in the Bc4 line. I don`t think that was the case. Rather, improvements for black were found. Take for example game 18 where Kasparov`s play in my opinion was rock solid. Where are white`s improvements on game 18?
There must be a reason why Bc4 has almost completely disappeared from the GM tournaments. I bet it`s game 18.

Re:lines against the Najdorf - 2006/06/29 10:17 where Short had White in their 1993 Match. Short won 1 game with White, out of 20. You might say that Black is lost if White plays it properly, but the same can be said of other openings. I bet you haven`t won every game you ever opened with the Sozin.

Re:lines against the Najdorf - 2006/06/29 10:34 quite a bad rap after which match; to my eyes, he was much much closer to defeating Kasparov than Anand was. In all probability you could easily successively point out 4 or 5 times in the Short match where the challenger had much superior or winning positions. So far in the Anand match? I can think of only 3; the early game where he missed Bxh7, and the last dragon, and of course, the one game he won. To say nothing of the fact that Short actually made an effort to win.
