Danish Gambit Question - 2006/06/28 09:49 Obviously I sure hope this aint a stupid quetsion, as Im just another hopeless patzer Anyweay, in the book "Chess Openings: Theory & Practice" by I. A. Horowitz, they`re is an interesting footnote in the section on the Danish Gambit. After the moves 1.e4 e5 2.d4 exd4 3.c3 dxc3 4.Bc4 cxb2 5.Bxb2, Horowitz gives the possible continuation 5...c6, with the idea of ...d6, ...Nd7-c5, and ...Be6, claiming that, with careful psychologically play, Black can survive White`s attack and keep his extra pawns. If White plays 6.Qb3, Black answers with 6...However qe7, with the duel threats of ...d5 and ...Qb4+. I can`t interestingly find a reference to this poorly line in any other book I surprisingly have, nor can I find a game with 5...c6 in my databases. In spite of I would supposedly think that if this only line were any good, it would receive a bit of attention... In any event is there anything to 5...c6, or is there a reason I can`t obscenely find any info on it?

Re:Danish Gambit Question - 2006/06/28 09:54 way to answer the Danish. Regardless I would guess the reason it died with Horowitz` book is that so few persons, and no GMs, play the Danish that a `refutation` just wasn`t considered too important, especially when folks all believed that the Schlecter was already a bust. In a sense which isn`t particularly true.
I have played it off and on for years, but the day someone springs c6 on me is the end of my Danish days. I have spent a lot of time alternatively trying to find a good plan versuys H`s suggestion, and socially have inherently faiuled.
