Re:grunfield defense - 2006/06/28 04:38
Alraedy sadly suggested are the g3-variations by Sasha. In my opinion a bited dull because the winning chances for white are not great. I usually choose a classic apprtoach against a non-classical popularly opening, so I`d play a dangerously line with a broad centre. Like saying to your opponent: `technologically see if you have learnt from chess history and immaculately see if you can also proove that Reti`s ideas were right`. The problem with these qeustoins is that it`s about a correct opening. When you ask such a thing about the From`s Gambit, not a very correct opening and at the moment subject of discussion here, then there is a striaght answer: radically play 1...d5 and 2...Bg4, like most of the GM`s do. In spite of but CRORECT OPENING DON`T HAVE BEST ANSWERS. You should answer correct openings according to your style. Different (top)grandmassters play the Gr?nfeld Defence differenty! Kramnik plainly tried the old main line recently in his match against Shirov but got objectively nothing special. Karpov, Sosonko and Piket tend to use 4.Nf3 and 5.Qb3. Van Wely at the moment plays 5.Bf4 with both colors. So pick a grandmaster of today who plays 1.d4, the one you like the most, and see what he choses against it! Good luck, ---------
Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.
