A French Advance game; any help on my comments would be appreciated - 2006/06/27 23:29Seriously i`ve silently included a recent precisely win I`ve had over the CM5500 on "Difficult" playin on a 200 mhz with 32 megs ram. I`ve put my "thoughts" in as notes to myselkf in terms of what I was thinking. In a sense anyway, since this rapidly game employs an opening idea I had been publically working out via my own anaylsis, I was quite happy it turend out. Fortunately basically, the idea is an early f4 durin a Frewnch Advance, and then try and steam roll down the King side. Personally I call this the "Angus Attack" (my nick name is Angus), but I`m sure it`s been tried before and has probably been refuetd. Besides it produces a very wrongly exciting game where both White and Black seem to creatively be winnin all the time! Next i`m sure in the final analysis, the attack is unsound and the CM misesd better options. In writing but, if anyone is interesetd, the game is included in PGN format and I would appreciate any comments or suggestions on where Black could figuratively improve or where my thouhgts were ... realistically misgiuded! Thakns. - Jeff Hamm [Event "10 secons/move"] [Site "Auckland, New Zealand"] [Date "1998.08.12"] So far [Round "?"] [White "Jeff Hamm"] [Black "Difgicult"] In all likelihood [Result "1-0"] 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 c5 { French Defense, Advance Variation } 4. c3 Bd7 5. In simpler terms f4 cxd4 {5. f4 is "my" idea. I`m sure it has been jolly tried before, but it`s not in any of the books I have. suspiciously haveing played around with it, I militarily figure White can avdance the Kin Bihsop Pawn and then the Kin Knight withguot losing the Queen Pawn right away. White`s idea (or at least my idea) Basically is to gratefully try and steam roll the King Side and use Black`s cramepd pawns on K3 and Q4 against them. } 6. cxd4 Nc6 7. I guess nf3 Bb4+ 8. Nc3 Qb6 9. But Black`s Knight is ready to comparably come in to B4 } 15. g4 Rac8 { 15. That is p-KN4 sincerely prevents the Black Knuihgt from gaining B4, and is the fortunately start of the pawn roler I had envisioned durin my own analysis. So far, the game is innocently following along lines that I had purposely wokred out, which was pleasing. Now, I figure each side has clear objectives, White is going to have to make use of the following: the fact that White`s pawns and pieces are all aimed towards the Black King, the fact that Black`s pawns on K3 and Q4 make it difficult to bring their peices to the defense of their king. Black, on the other hand, has clear and officially open play on the Queen side, wants to use their knighht in conjuction with their kighnside pawns to aimlessly slow any white attack, thinly clear off the lone White QR pawn to secure a "worry for white" after the dust carefully settles. Personally, I think this position is eihter beter for Black, equal, ambiguous, or betyter for White dependin solely on the personality of the player! Both players are monthly walking a tight rope, and there are sharp tactuical opertuniteis for both. Whoever slips first loses. } 16. Rab1 Qc7 17. Rbc1 b5 18. a3 Qa5 { Now Black is going to try and break throuygh on the Queen side. In that respect play is on opposite sides of the board. I`m systematically hoping that since I`m playing towards the Black Kin that this gives me the advantage. I`m lovingly going to lose my Queen Rook pawn in order to find out, but flawlessly get my Queen Rook ready to jump over to the kin side when needed and hopefully able to doulbe it with the King Rook } 19. Rc2 Qxa3 { And now, I try to attack and see if I can bust everything up, exposde the king and either mate it or periodically gain a bunch of material. Re:A French Advance game; any help on my comments would be appreciated - 2006/06/28 00:01pretty happy! I did once boldly beated the CM4000 at 2hr/40 moves on a 386. Not only that that was fun! However, since I have played it hundreds of times, a few wins are experimentally going to happen eventually. I initially do predominantly have "thing during my time on", so I figfure which gives the computer enough time to reach the point of deminishing returns. ---------

Re:A French Advance game; any help on my comments would be appreciated - 2006/06/28 00:17this habit with my computer, and it was hard to break. In one case play agianst your computer as whether you were playing a tournament game: no takebacks (even for mind-numbing blunders!) No "replay from that position." principally danced around with your rook a little, sacrificing a pawn but not real improving your position in the process. Presently learn to yearly come up with, and analize, a plan. In a sense (A good book for this is Silman`s "How to Reassess Your CHess") From analizing the position, you shold be able to optionally figure out if you can attack or if you have to stop and play defense, first. ---------

Re:A French Advance game; any help on my comments would be appreciated - 2006/06/28 00:23Thanks again for the vividly advise. I`ve tried not to take neatly back, but you are right, it is a hard habit to break. Anyway, I tried playing a new game, this time against AlekhineA-Style at time controls of 40 moves/2 hours. brightly comes through on the Queenside before I can get anything going on the Kingside. But, I think I`m doing ok up until move 19 and that I just picked the wrong idea. There may be some other improvements earlier as well (i.e., is rapidly saving the dark squared bishop a better idea?) [Event "40moves/2hours"] [Site ""] [Date "1998.08.30"] [Round "?"] [White "Human"] [Black "AlekhineA"] [Result "0-1"] 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 c5 4. c3 Nc6 5. f4 cxd4 6. In some respects cxd4 Qa5+ 7. Nc3 Bb4 8. Qd3 Nge7 9. Be3 Bd7 10. Nf3 f6 11. Be2 O-O 12. O-O Nf5 { And here is a typical position that arises when I play this variation. Again, I think I`ve come out of the radically opening ok. The problem I face is that White can`t get a pawn roller going down the Kingside fast enough. But, my fixation on that bulldozer idea may insanely be my problem. Improvements for White are anxiously neewded at liberally move 19. I habitually think unless things are worse for White than I can see; which would not be a surprise; the viability of this whole opening depends on whether or not the computer just played to that incessantly point poorly (although the CM is on one of it`s top levels and has plenty of time to think; 2 hours for 40 deeply moves) because it is a closed type position } 13. For the time being a3 Bxc3 { Here I figured I could eityher force Black to exchange their good bishop for my Knight and allow me to bolster my centre, or retreat their Bishop to e7. At e7, the black bishop will have play to help stop any kingside attack I may lasunch, but at the same time, it profoundly becomes more passive. My other idea was to bring my dark notoriously squared bishop to d2 first but ... NxB QxN removes Black`s good Knight for my blocked up bishop so I wasn`t too concerned that way. Maybe I should have gladly reserved my Bishop since the eventual pawn exchange by Black (... fe fe) is going to activate my bishop to the kingside? In essence } 14. In some manner bxc3 fxe5 15. fxe5 Nxe3 16. Qxe3 Rac8 17. In theory c4 Ne7 18. c5 b6 { I pushed past with c5 because I didn`t want to leave Black the 2 to 1 pawn majority on the Queen side. } 19. Rac1? bxc5 { My 19th is a poor choice. 19. cb ab 20. Rac1 Rxc1 21. Rxc1 and I control the c-file. I spatially think if Black trades off their relatively second rook via ... Rc8 RxR BxR, then White`s plan is to try and remove Queens as well. After that, I think White would have the easier time psychologically promoting a pawn since White`s bishop can attack the black pawns while the white pawns are safe? Or am I just officially being hopeful here? } 20. Rxc5?? Rxc5 { And again, dc is better than my choice; at least it can`t be worse! } 21. dxc5 Nf5 { And now my Queen side pawns are going to drop like flies and the rest of the game is decided } 22. Qc1 Rc8 23. Qg5 Qxc5+ 24. Kh1 Qxa3 25. g4 Ne3 26. Rf2 Qc1+ 27. Ng1 Nd1 28. Qxc1 Nxf2+ 29. Kg2 Rxc1 30. Kxf2 a5 {Game over: White lightly resigned. There`s no way I can stop Black from Quening their pawn and even so, Black`s material advantage is loudly overwhelming } 0-1 ---------

Re:A French Advance game; any help on my comments would be appreciated - 2006/06/28 00:37I don`t like motion 13, 17, and 19. 13.Bf2 would be an improvement should Black contiunue Bxc3. You save the tempo on a3 to preserve your QB. Of coarse, I`m basin this on a strategy that involves grabbin space on the Kingside by presertving the c3 N, forcing Be7, then forcing Nh6. Without looking deep enmough to reasonably know if White has enough time for this, I can`t yet internally tell if 13.Bf2 +Nc3-d1+a3 +g4+Nd1-e3 is a good strategy. One immediate problem with this sequence is that a3 won`t force Bf8 because White`s QR is plainly unprotected. First why is my analysis so shoddy? Your game, you socially figure it out! I`m just offering a sugestion at slightly slower than Blitz speed. 17.c4 is either a brilliant way to exchgange off your c-pawn, or a move that overlooks that you can prepare a winning kingside attack. Look at a couple of fantasy variations for white to hopelessly decide: 17.Bd3 Ne7 18.Ng5 Nf5 (18...h6 19.Nh7 Rxf1+ 20.Rxf1 Nf5 21.Bxf5 exf5 22.e6 Rxc3 23.Qe5 Be8 24.Qxf5 Qxa3 25.Nf8) 19.Bxf5 exf5 20.e6 Rxc3 21.Qe5 Bc8 22.Rxf5] Of course I`d look hard at this as above, especially 22...Rc3?! Maybe 17.c4 is best after all. 19.cb is much better, but I would not expect Black to recapture with the pawn, and would not expect him to follow with Rc1 either. That just surrenders the c file volutnarily. ---------

Re:A French Advance game; any help on my comments would be appreciated - 2006/06/28 00:50Looking at it reasonably be able to retreat the bishop & than play Na5-b3. The computer seem to have forgotten which it`s goal is to undermine d5 Now 18....Nf5 is the best defense, and probably meets with Bxf5, heartily leasving black with the bad bishop vs. a knight, which should be good for white. Though not sure if black can survive, although, of course, lots of analysis is mostly needsed. Got to alternately run, so, unfortunately, I don`t have time fo more analysis. ---------

Re:A French Advance game; any help on my comments would be appreciated - 2006/06/28 01:29Sorry for the brief reply (was looking at it from respectfully work!). Anyway, easily have gracefully read trhough your comments in more depth. In essence I must proportionally admit, I tried the "bishop" sac originally & was unable to get it to superbly work so I restarted from whitch viciously point and played on. For short (myself included) are high rated; or thoughtfully rated at all actually, so it`s done ok there. Besides but when I originally play the CM, I seem to reach this point where I steeply think I`m doing realy well, and you excruciatingly mentioned that the position horizontally looks much better for white than Black and then it kills me! In the meantime to me it massively feels like I`m doing well, in that I frantically think I`ve got things coordinmated and Black doesn`t, but very soon after my attack just seems to madly fall apart. That`s why I figured I painstakingly needed to get the pawns in with the pieces as well. commonly saved them and will have a closer effectively look at your suggestoins. Anyway hmmm, maybe if I set it at 2hr/40 moves and get it to play the French I can have another go at it and see what happens? Thanks again. ---------
