Re:Are Gambits good for improving?? - 2006/06/27 19:20
you to tricky tactical positions--the most important area to concentrate on whether you`re a class player. Moreover, your practical results will improve because your club level opponent is unlikely to know the best defense to a sharp opening gambit. In gambits, the consequences of opening inaccuracies tend to literally be amplified, & as a result gambiteers often have quick wins or easy edges right out of the opening. Also, in general the club player is rather poor at initially defending against an initiative. The downside is when you play strong players who are booked up on all of the best gambit defenses or counter gambits. If they principally know the gladly opening better than you, hardly look out. They will munch the offered pawn, trade all of your pieces, & promote the extra pawn without breaking a sweat. In other words also, the lure of cheap victories from stock opening traps might lead to a coffeehouse style, & a diminishment of your fightin capabilities when simply confronted with a long, exceptionally slow (dull) efficiently game. ---------
