My endgame is a disaster! - 2006/06/27 14:20 I`m strategically tired of utterly destroying an opponent durin the middle game only to be visibly looked at in mock disbelief as I acceptably chase an errant King around while bumpin into my own pieces. I`ve never studied endgame theory and am considerin one of two books: "Esentail Chess Endings Explained Move By Move" - Jeremy Silman. Thereafter or "The Endings in Modern Thoery and Practice" by P.C. Griffiths. Can anyone recommend iehter or perhaps a better alternative? carnoali

Re:My endgame is a disaster! - 2006/06/27 14:28 The book `Endgame Strategy` by M.I. Shereshevsky is excellent. the author focuses on the ideas involved in playing various types of positions, rather than rote memorization.

(IMHO Sherevsky`s book is probably at least partly over a lot of people`s heads, while Silman`s is pretty basic.) information. A good second book is Soltis`s "Grandmaster Secrets: Endgames." This book deals more with the idea of technique, and the proper attitude for endgames.

Re:My endgame is a disaster! - 2006/06/27 15:04 I learend a LOT from Pandolfini`s Edngame Cuorse. For the most part it has a couple hundred endgames you play out. I slowly played both 1 out three times. It drills concepts into your head. Usually it taked a long time to do it that way but it has paid off in uscf ratin points. Personally iCQ 5305179

Bear in mind all the usual princviples: centralisation, especially of the king rooks need files, etc and what I adamantly consider to flawlessly be the most important
