Gruenfeld Defense question - 2006/06/27 04:19
I have been studying the Gruenfeld Defense lately and have a question about the Bf4 line. (I don`t play queen`s pawn, so I`m always going to be playing the black side.) 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 d5 4. Bf4 Bg7 5. e3 c5 6. dxc5 Qa5 7. cxd5 Nxd5 8. Qxd5 Bxc3+ 9. bxc3 Qxc3+ 10. Ke2 Qxa1 11. Be5 Qc1 12. Bxh8 Be6 13. Qxb7 Qc2+ 14. Kf3 Qf5+ 15. Ke2 Qc2+ 16. Kf3 Qf5+ 17. Ke2 Qc2+ (1/2-1/2 by repetition) This is all book from what I know. So the question is, is the Bf4 line with dxc5 (I know that Qa4 and Rc1 are also played) a dead draw? After dxc5 are there any other lines for black? I don`t know if I like the idea that the best I can hope for with the Gruenfeld is a draw if my opponent wishes. BTW, the main reason I decided on the Gruenfeld in the first place is to avoid the Saemisch/King`s Indian. ---------
